"The Wolf submarine will return to the Navy in 2023, having received new strike capabilities associated with the use of Kalibr-PL cruise missiles after modernization, "he said.
According to the source, the arsenal of weapons on board the submarine will remain the same-40 missiles and torpedoes, but it will be expanded at the expense of cruise missiles "Kalibr-PL", the range of which is up to 2.5 thousand km. The ship repair center "Zvezdochka" (part of the United Shipbuilding Corporation) did not comment on this information to TASS.
The submarine "Wolf" came for repair and modernization on the "Asterisk" in 2014. It was originally expected that she would return to the Navy in 2017.
Multi-purpose submarines of the third generation of the project 971 were developed in the St. Petersburg Marine Engineering Bureau "Malachit". In total, the 24th Division of the submarine forces of the Northern Fleet includes six submarines - "Leopard", "Boar", "Tiger", "Panther", "Cheetah", "Wolf".
On December 26, 2020, the Ministry of Defense announced that after the completion of repairs and modernization, the Leopard submarine was removed from the boathouse of the Zvezdochka ship repair center in Severodvinsk.
In total, five Project 971 submarines are currently undergoing modernization at Zvezdochka and its enterprises, including two from the Pacific Fleet.
