The NK-12MP engines will also be upgraded to the NK-12MPM level during major repairs, if there is an order from the Ministry of defense, said Pavel Chupin, General designer of UEC-Kuznetsov
SAMARA, December 23. /TASS/. The resource of the upgraded NK-12MPM engine for the Tu-95MS strategic bomber is planned to be increased fourfold. This was reported to journalists by the General designer of UEC-Kuznetsov (part of the United engine Corporation of the state Corporation rostec") Pavel Chupin.
He said that at present, state joint tests of the engine as part of the Tu-95MSM aircraft are continuing. "They are close to completion. Most of the tests have already been completed, " Chupin said.
The General designer noted that work is currently underway to increase the engine life. "As is customary for any gas turbine engine, according to the test results, the initial resource is set, and then work continues to increase the engine resource. We plan to increase the engine life by 4 times relative to the current figures, " Chupin said.
He also added that, according to the existing plans, the NK-12MP engines will be upgraded to the level of NK-12MPM during major repairs, if there is a corresponding order from the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation. "From the point of view of production, I believe the company is ready for this," Chupin said.
The NK-12MPM engine developed by Samara-based UEC-Kuznetsov is a modification of the NK-12MP, the world's most powerful (15,000 HP) production turboprop engine. The new power plant uses more powerful propellers created by NPP "Aerosila", while thanks to new design solutions, the level of vibration from the engine has been reduced by almost two times.
Tu-95MS aircraft are the aerial component of the nuclear triad. The Tu-95MS is designed to solve strike tasks to defeat the most important targets in remote areas and in the deep rear of continental theaters of war.
