In 2020, "the VVO air defense system was further developed, this year anti-aircraft missile units on modern S - 300V4 complexes on the Kuril Islands, on the mainland-on S - 400 systems, and on Chukotka-high-altitude fighter - interceptors MiG-31BM, which provided reliable cover for the far Eastern borders from the Chukchi to the sea of Japan," Zhidko told reporters on the sidelines of an expanded meeting of the Board of the Ministry of defense of the Russian Federation in Monday.
In early December, the VVO reported that THE s-300V4 air defense system was deployed on the Kuril Islands. The military did not specify on which of the Islands the S-300V4 is on duty.
S-300V4 (JSC "Concern of East Kazakhstan region "Almaz-Antey") - a complex on a tracked track. Refers to the air defense of the Ground forces. Its tasks: protection of troops in defensive and offensive operations, air and missile defense of military facilities.
In recent years, Russia has significantly increased its military grouping in the Kuril Islands.
Zhidko also said that in the outgoing year, the VVO troops received more than 500 units of modern and modernized equipment, including su-35S, MiG-31BM, s-400 air defense systems, BTR-82AM armored personnel carriers. "as a result, the share of modern weapons in the VVO troops increased to 55 percent," Zhidko said.
