German defense Minister Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer has called for a change in the approach to the use of weapons-capable drones by the Bundeswehr, she said, speaking during a debate on the budget for 2021 in the Bundestag.
This is reported by TASS.
"it is right that we in germany are discussing the arming of drones and autonomous systems. there are many arguments, including ethical ones, which i do not share, but which need to be seriously discussed, " she said.
According to Kramp-Karrenbauer, during her trip to Afghanistan, Bundeswehr soldiers told her about a situation when they were subjected to rocket fire and could not do anything until American aircraft came to the rescue. The drones at their disposal did not carry weapons and could not suppress the firing point.
"We are negligently putting the lives of soldiers on the line, and I would like to change this," the minister stressed in this regard.
in recent years, the german air force has been demanding approval for the use of attack drones to protect the military in hot spots.
