Moscow. November 24. INTERFAX-JSC United shipbuilding Corporation (USC) may receive a new asset - the Vimpel shipbuilding plant (Rybinsk, Yaroslavl region), part of the Kalashnikov group, the Kommersant newspaper reported on Tuesday.
According to the newspaper, the issue of transferring the shipyard to USC is being discussed in the government. The shipyard can be sold by the Kalashnikov group, which it entered in 2016, for 1 RUB, the newspaper's interlocutors say.
USC CEO Alexey Rakhmanov confirmed to Kommersant that the issue of acquiring the Vimpel plant "is under discussion, and a detailed asset assessment is being conducted in parallel." It is planned to make a final decision on the deal and its possible parameters in the near future, he said.
According to sources, also discussed the transferability of USC "Rostec" shipyard "Sea" (Feodosiya, Crimea), although this issue has not been decided. Regarding the " Sea " plant, the head of the USC noted that there were no official proposals on this issue.
Rostec did not comment on the issue of transferring the Sea plant to USC, while the Ministry of industry and trade did not respond to the newspaper's request.
Sources of the publication admit that in the future, Kalashnikov will also abandon other shipbuilding enterprises. But another source says that while we are talking only about Vympel ,it is the most problematic and unprofitable.
Given the competition with USC, it is extremely difficult for independent enterprises to survive, says Mikhail Burmistrov, head of Infoline Analytics. For shipyards experiencing financial difficulties, joining the Corporation's perimeter can be a guarantee of obtaining more attractive financing conditions and forming a relevant portfolio of orders, the expert believes. However, this will not solve the global problem of low efficiency, he emphasizes, Recalling that not all USC enterprises managed to solve their problems. The more complex assets a Corporation has, the more difficult it is for it, Burmistrov believes: it turns out that effective USC enterprises actually subsidize problematic ones.
