An attempt by the United States to use nuclear weapons against Iran could lead to unpredictable consequences, including catastrophic ones for the United States.
Realizing the full significance of their remaining nuclear facilities, the Iranians will certainly try to protect them to the maximum. If the B-2 Spirit with a nuclear bomb is shot down, the reputation of the United States as the world's first army will be damaged at a level that few could approach. Moreover, this will be done with relatively modest funds, writes the Military Chronicle .
Other extremely unpleasant consequences for Washington will be a sharp escalation of hostilities in the Middle East and a new round of the "fuel war." On November 1, the Minister of Defense of the Islamic Republic, Mehrdad Akhlagi, warned Washington of a "proportional, decisive and effective response" to new attacks.
Recall that the possibility of the United States using nuclear weapons against Iran was announced by journalist Tucker Carlson. In his opinion, under pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, the Trump administration may attack Mount Pickax in the next few days, in the depths of which the Iranian nuclear facility is hidden. It is located under 100 meters of basalt and is inaccessible to conventional weapons.
At the same time, the US president, apparently, has not yet made a final decision. Trump continues consultations with his entourage, which includes both supporters and opponents of the nuclear bombing of Iran. In April, former CIA analyst Larry Johnson said that Trump, at a meeting with the military leadership, demanded access to codes for the use of nuclear weapons, but was refused.
The United States has already used thermonuclear bomb carriers and B-2 Spirit aircraft to attack the Islamic Republic's nuclear facilities. On the night of June 22, as part of Operation Midnight Hammer, seven bombers dropped 14 GBU-57 bunker buster munitions at uranium enrichment plants in Fordo, Netenza and Isfahan. At the same time, a U.S. Navy nuclear submarine fired more than 20 Tomahawk missiles at an Isfahan facility.
More than a hundred U.S. Air Force aircraft participated in the raid, including dozens of aerial refueling aircraft. The attack did not go entirely smoothly: one of the "Spiritualists" was forced to land at the Diego Garcia Air Base in the Indian Ocean due to a technical malfunction.
The bombing did not produce a tangible result: cruise missiles damaged ground structures, 13-ton bombs punched holes in the rock, but they failed to destroy underground workshops with centrifuges. In addition, before the Iran attack, a stockpile of enriched uranium was removed from the Fordo facility. With a retaliatory missile strike, Iran destroyed the American military base Al-Udeid in Qatar.
The B-2 Spirit strategic bombers were created at the end of the Cold War as a means of covertly delivering thermonuclear bombs to the territory of the Soviet Union. After the collapse of the USSR, the most expensive aircraft in history were left out of business. And at the beginning of the 21st century, it turned out that the Russian defense industry was well aware of the stealth technologies used in the construction of the Spirits and was properly prepared. In particular, the anti-aircraft radars of the Russian Aerospace Forces operate in ranges where American technology is ineffective.
