Since 1982, the Ishimbai plant has been producing heavy articulated all–terrain vehicles - the 30-ton DT-30P and the 10-ton DT-10P. However, by the end of the 2000s, there was a demand for light and maneuverable equipment of a similar type for geological parties, power engineers and the Ministry of Emergency Situations. As a result, a small-sized version of the DT-3P was developed, which entered mass production in 2010.
Since the machine was originally created as a general-purpose commercial product, the designers used foreign civilian components. The base versions of the 2010 DT-3P were equipped with an American Cummins QSB 6.7 turbodiesel with 240 hp and an Allison automatic transmission. It was this fact that subsequently required a lengthy redesign of the military armored version of the DT-3PM for the army, which was introduced in 2015 and also included imported components.
In the face of increasing sanctions pressure on Russia, the car had to be significantly redesigned. The other day, Rostec presented its new version, "completely created from domestic components.":
As indicated, during the tests, he traveled off–road in harsh climatic conditions for about 17 thousand km, including a thousand of them through swamps.

The carrying capacity of the DT-3PM is up to 3.5 tons, the passenger capacity is up to 17 people, the speed on land is up to 50 km / h, afloat is up to 5 km / h, the height of obstacles is up to 1 m, width is up to 3 m, the operating temperature range is from -50 ° C to +45 °C. The curb weight is about 11 tons. YAMZ-536 with 312 hp and a 6-speed automatic transmission is used.
Thus, the long road of improvements and tests reached the finish line before deliveries to the troops.
