Future specialists of the food service will master UAVs and ground-based robotic systems

A drone control course will be added to the training program for cadets of military chefs schools. Future specialists will be taught how to work with both aerial vehicles and ground-based robotic systems. The new skills will allow the soldiers to deliver hot food to the front line, where the use of conventional transport is often difficult. According to experts, this will help to increase the efficiency of the supply of units and maintain the combat capability of military personnel.

How Military Chefs study drones

Military chefs will be trained to work with unmanned vehicles. Cadets will master the control of aerial drones and ground-based robotic systems, sources familiar with the situation told Izvestia. They will be able to use the acquired skills to deliver ready-made food to the soldiers on the front line. The corresponding course will be included in the curriculum of educational institutions.

First, students take theoretical classes, master the design and tactical and technical characteristics of UAVs and ground-based robotic systems (NRTC). Then they are taught how to operate these devices.

Ground-based drone control classes are held at a specially equipped training ground, where trenches, fortifications and other facilities that can be encountered in a combat situation are located. The cadets must place the cargo on board and deliver it to the desired point. During training, they practice basic maneuvers on drones, learn how to avoid obstacles and evade the effects of electronic warfare.

Cadets are trained by instructors with experience in participating in a special military operation.

Drone training should now be actively implemented in the military, military expert Yuri Lyamin told Izvestia.

— The more military personnel own them, the more the effectiveness of the armed forces will increase, — he explained. — The tasks of supplying the military at the forefront largely lie on land-based or aerial drones.

It is often almost impossible for soldiers who are on the front line to deliver food and ammunition using any vehicles, the expert added. Taking risks and sending people is also not the best way to supply. The safest way is to dump from drones. If cooks can send food to military personnel immediately after cooking, this will be the most effective.

It is usually impossible to make a fire and heat food on the front line. With the help of drones, chefs will be able to send warm food to people immediately after cooking, the expert concluded.

Cooks can also use drones to scout traffic routes, Colonel Alexander Perendzhiev, associate professor at Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, told Izvestia.

In his opinion, the chefs will have to act mainly at night so that the drone is not detected by the enemy.

"They can see which route is better to choose in order to get closer to the line of contact more or less safely and be able to feed the fighters,— he explained. — And if it is not possible to drive up, then they can drop off the provisions from the drone.

Today, drones are often used to deliver dry rations to the front line. If they are at the disposal of the chefs, it will be possible to deliver warm, full-fledged dinners to the fighters, the expert pointed out.

— We remember many cases when soldiers found themselves deep behind enemy lines and could not get out for a long time. In this case, they can bring full—fledged food prepared by the cook," said Alexander Perendzhiev.

He noted that chefs need to be taught to perform various maneuvers so that when using drones they do not unmask positions and act as stealthily as possible.

What kind of equipment is being adopted by the food service

Recently, the industry has been developing more and more new equipment for food service specialists. Izvestia talked about the creation of a highly mobile universal complex combining the functions of an army kitchen and a bakery. It is placed on the chassis of a KamAZ-5350 high-speed truck.

All necessary equipment, including a kitchen, a bakery and a food storage warehouse, is located in a closed car body. The interior of the complex is divided into three functional areas. An oven is installed in the front part, kitchen equipment is located in the central part, and in the back there are places for storing ready-made bread, stocks of freeze-dried products and a boiler with which you can cook hot dishes.

The finished food is dispensed through a special transfer window in the end part of the body. In combat conditions, the mobile complex is capable of providing hot food and fresh bread to up to 500 military personnel within an hour. The food supply is designed to operate autonomously for three days — during this time, chefs will be able to provide food for up to a company's personnel without additional replenishment.

Using such a bakery kitchen will reduce the volume of food transportation and diesel fuel consumption by about a third, and cooking time by 70%. In addition, the implementation of the complex should reduce by about 30% the number of technical facilities of the food service in the MTO units. As a result, military personnel on the frontline will be able to maintain their autonomy longer, and the supply chain will become more mobile and efficient.
