How journalists lie about Russian aviation: Using the example of the price of remotorization of Superjets

There are three wonderful non-governmental media outlets in our country. One of their areas of work is the constant waves of negativity through the publication of unverified data and subjective speculation about Russian technology and technology. To do this, they refer to certain "sources", never naming them. These three always have links to each other as authoritative sources: one broadcasts, the other supports. And against this background, they constantly talk positively about technologies from the USA and Europe. The clinical picture is clear, as they say, but such activity periodically becomes very noticeable. As in the case of the "news" about the cost of replacing SaM-146 aircraft engines with Russian PD-8s on Superjet aircraft, which one of the three publications published on July 7, 2026.

What is the essence of the next story? Notorious for her articles about Russian civil aviation, Aigul Abdullina, in her next publication under the heading "Dry Calculation", issued the thesis that "The replacement of engines on 50 SSJ-100 aircraft was estimated at 115 billion rubles." The sources of information given by the author in the text look like this: "According to Kommersant," "As Kommersant's sources in the industry told," "According to Kommersant's interlocutors," "some of Kommersant's interlocutors are clarifying," "Kommersant's sources are evaluating," "a number of Kommersant's interlocutors he believes", "other Kommersant sources emphasize", "according to Kommersant sources"... No, this is not humor, but a real set of sources mentioned in an article about the re-motorization of Superjet aircraft by a supposedly very serious metropolitan edition of the federal format.

To be fair, it should be noted that throughout the long text there is one seemingly lively quoted source, identified as "Andrey Kramarenko, Senior Researcher at the HSE Institute of Transport Economics." Of course, for some metropolitan media, mentioning the HSE is serious, but what does this structure have to do with real production processes in Russian civil aviation, and especially engine building? The question is rhetorical.

There is not a single specific living specialist from the engine industry, aircraft industry and airlines. But to make the text more solid, there is a reference to some anonymous people from the UAC and the UEC, who are mentioned as follows: "The UAC informed Kommersant" and "The United Engine Corporation (UEC) noted." Plus some other unnamed people from Rostec: "Rostec added it."

It turns out to be interesting: the capital's super-journalists, megaprofi trained in fact-checking, write, and the facts are taken from thin air. In theory, this is the end of the study of this fascinating "expert" article, but then I received greetings from the UAC from a very specific person – CEO Vadim Badekhi. He said the following quite specifically and clearly for all fans of printing lies, hiding behind anonymous "sources": "The assessments that were made in Kommersant — we can say for sure that this has nothing to do with reality. The cost of the engine is known today, the cost of modification is known. This fits exactly into the ordinary economy and there can be no question of any hundreds of billions or tens of billions, this is incorrect information." End of quote.

According to the editor-in-chief of the Technosphere media resource. Russia" Evgeny Belkin, in the current situation, it is necessary that trained journalists write and shoot reports about our aviation (and Russian equipment in general): "What we see on the example of some metropolitan publications that publish materials based on unverified data about the main programs of our engine and aircraft industry has long needed to be adjusted. on the part of the state. Journalists who write about technology are still not properly trained, they are often recruited anywhere and by anyone. Plus, there are publications with a pronounced anti-Russian position, for which iPhones, Ilona masks and dancing idiot robots are the highest technologies, and everything that is made in Russia is bad. Together, this has an extremely negative effect on the information field of the technosphere of our country. It has been necessary to solve this problem systematically and at a high level for a long time."
