Let's continue the topic of armored patrol cars. After the three NATO states , let's turn to the fleet of two armies of non-aligned Europe.

Swiss patrol cars

Mowag (now owned by General Dynamics European Land Systems or GDELS) introduced the Eagle family of armored vehicles in 1992. The latest generation, the Eagle V, was released in 2010. This is the first patrol car of the family, available in both 4x4 and 6x6 versions.

The 4x4 variant with a length of 5.4 m has a maximum mass of 11.5 tons, including a payload of 3.5 tons. It accommodates four people, including the commander and the driver (2+2), and it is possible to install a temporary fifth seat. The 6×6 armored vehicle with a length of 6.9 m has a maximum mass of 17 tons, including a payload of up to 5 tons. Depending on the configuration, it can accommodate 12 people, including the commander and the driver (2+10).

Both versions of the Eagle V use de Dion suspension, which increases cross-country ability and stability off-road. As in the case of the BM "Dingo" ( Dingo ), in the "Eagle" the main protection is concentrated in the crew accommodation.

The V-shaped floor and internal unloading elements provide maximum mine protection. The STANAG 4569 Level 1 ballistic protection can be upgraded to Level 3 with an additional set of armor, as well as enhanced with RPG protection. Additional protection options include air filtration from weapons of mass destruction, automatic fire extinguishing, and engine compartment protection.

An additional remote-controlled combat module (DMS) mounted on the roof can accommodate various weapons. The vehicle itself can perform several functions, including general patrolling, reconnaissance, surveillance, air defense, and medical assistance.

Patrol cars of the Serbian Armed Forces

The Milos multipurpose armored vehicle (BOV M16 Milos) 4x4 is designed and manufactured by Yugoimport. Production has been underway since 2017. The Miloš BM entered service with the Serbian Armed Forces in 2019 and is used to perform a wide range of tasks: patrolling, reconnaissance, anti-terrorist operations, support for special forces and anti-tank operations. The independent suspension system ensures high mobility in various terrain areas.

The maximum weight of a patrol car with a length of 5.45 m is 14 tons. The 6.5 cubic meter combat compartment can accommodate up to eight military personnel, including the commander and the driver (2+6). Four people sit in the front of the car and leave it through four standard doors, and four more are placed in the rear and exit through a hydraulic ramp or an integrated tailgate.

The body of the BM is made of armored sheet steel and provides ballistic protection according to the STANAG 4569 standard, level 3 in front and level 2 on the other sides. Mine protection conforms to levels 2a and 2b according to the STANAG 4569 standard.

The BOV M16 can be equipped with a remote or manually operated combat module. Various weapons can be installed on the module, including a 12.7 mm machine gun, a 7.62mm six-barrel M134D Minigun, ATGM and short-range air defense systems.

Milos-2 entered service in 2023. The 6.5 m long version has a maximum weight of 18 tons. It is armed with a 1,000-kilogram Kerber combat module developed by Yugoimport and designed for installation on lightly and medium armored vehicles.

The Kerber is equipped with a day and thermal optical-electronic sight, a fire control system and is armed with three 20-mm automatic cannons, which provides high firepower when fighting ground, air and sea targets. As the Serbian Armed Forces continue to purchase this machine, it is also offered for export.
