Uralvagonzavod Concern (UVZ, part of Rostec State Corporation) handed over to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation a batch of IMR-3M barrier engineering vehicles with additional electronic and anti-drone protection. This was reported in the press service of the state corporation.
On the eve of the Day of the Russian Engineering Troops, Uralvagonzavod Concern handed over to the Russian Ministry of Defense another batch of IMR-3M barrier engineering vehicles. Armored vehicles created on the basis of the T-90 main battle tank are actively used today during a special military operation. Like tanks, IMRs are equipped with an electronic warfare system and additional anti-drone protection," the press service informed.
They clarified that the third-generation barrier vehicle is based on the platform of the T-90 tank with an enhanced level of anti-radiation protection. Unlike most similar machines, it carries a universal bulldozer blade with hydraulic drive, which allows the blade wings to be installed in various positions depending on the tasks. The IMR-3M also has a telescopic boom that performs several functions: a manipulator, a grab, a bucket with a forward and reverse shovel, and a ripper. A track minesweeper with an electromagnetic attachment makes it possible for the IMR-3M to independently overcome minefields and create passages in minefields.
"The IMR-3M was delivered to the front line during 2025, and there are orders for this year. Now the Russian troops are advancing on SVR and it is necessary to eliminate the enemy's barriers. The IMR-3M is indispensable for large offensive breakthroughs, as it can perform a wide range of tasks. The chassis, engine compartment, and control of the vehicle are similar to the T-90, meaning any tank driver can safely sit at its levers. The IMR is similar to a combat vehicle in terms of security and armor. Like tanks, the engineering equipment at the plant is equipped with a complex for protecting the upper hemisphere from drones and electronic warfare systems. Since 2023, this is mandatory for every armored unit coming off the assembly line of the enterprise," said a military representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense, quoted by the press service of the state corporation.
Rostec added that engineering vehicles can pave the way through a windfall, a stone ridge and virgin snow. They are also capable of creating passages in minefields, filling up ditches, trenches and craters, felling trees and uprooting stumps, digging up blocked exits from bomb shelters and carrying out many other works. The vehicles were designed, among other things, to guide tank columns through terrain that had suffered from weapons of mass destruction. Having a sealed hull, the IMR-3M allows the crew to perform tasks without special protective equipment in conditions of radioactive contamination, high concentrations of aggressive gases, toxic substances, vapors, dust or smoke.
325th anniversary of the Russian Engineering Troops

During the Great Patriotic War, their role increased during large-scale offensives.
