TSAMTO, November 13. At the military parade held on November 8, dedicated to the 5th anniversary of the victory in the Second Karabakh War, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces demonstrated several new weapons systems, including missile systems and air defense systems.
Thus, according to Jane's Defense Weekly, the presenter commenting on the parade reported that the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had recently received a 370-mm Predator Hawk tactical missile with a range of 300 km, manufactured by the Israeli company Elbit Systems. The launch of these missiles is carried out by multi-caliber multiple launch rocket systems PULS (Precise & Universal Launching System) on the Tatra chassis, demonstrated at the parade in several versions.
Earlier, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces had already adopted the Elbit Systems-developed MLRS systems on the KAMAZ chassis, armed with Accular rocket ammunition and 306-mm tactical Extra missiles.
The commentator also hinted that Azerbaijan had acquired a version of the PULS with the SkyStriker barrage ammunition.
In addition, it was announced the recent acquisition of Hero-120 barrage ammunition manufactured by the Israeli company uVision. Six launchers of these systems were shown on two Iveco 4x4 vehicles.
During the report, the TV commentator announced the order of a new cruise missile "Ice Breaker" (Ice Breaker) from the Israeli company Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, which was transported in the back of a truck. The publicly demonstrated munition was probably a mock-up, since it lacked an air intake.
In 2021, Rafael introduced the Sea Breaker anti-ship missile as a long-range weapon that can be used in difficult coastal conditions. In 2022, the development of the Ice Breaker was announced, which is an air-based munition that allows hitting ground and surface targets at ranges up to 300 km.
Currently, Rafael states that the launch of the Ice Breaker can be carried out from land vehicles or small naval vessels, as well as aircraft. The missile was followed by a three-container launcher at the parade, which indicates Azerbaijan's choice of a land-based option.
Among the new artillery systems presented at the parade, the 155-mm self-propelled howitzer Nora-B52 NG of Serbian production and the Czech 155-mm self-propelled artillery installation DITA should be highlighted.
In addition, Azerbaijan's purchase of at least one Chinese-made HQ-9BE long-range anti-aircraft missile system was confirmed. Two transport launchers with anti-aircraft missiles were demonstrated in the parade column. The HQ-9, also known as the FD-2000, is the Chinese version of the Russian S-300 air defense system. By purchasing the complex, Azerbaijan joined Pakistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, which acquired it earlier. At the same time, Azerbaijan is also the only confirmed export customer of the Barak-8 air defense system (identified in the Azerbaijani media as Ildirim-8) manufactured by Israel Aerospace Industries.
Three self-propelled firing systems and a control vehicle from the Buk-MB2K air defense system manufactured by the Belarusian company OKB TSP were also shown at the parade.
In addition, the Azerbaijani Armed Forces demonstrated for the first time the multifunctional Viking mobile anti-aircraft system of national design, followed by the upgraded ZSU-23-4. The new complex is mounted on an armored Tatra 6x6 chassis and is equipped with a turret armed with an automatic cannon, guided missiles and a 12.7mm machine gun. The commentator noted that the complex had recently been put into service, although visually some of its elements resembled mockups.
The MTR group leading the parade included light off-road vehicles Vasaq ("Lynx" in Azerbaijani) with a 4x4 wheel formula, which the commentator also ranked among the newly adopted products of national production.
The Vasaq is probably a patrol car presented in July by the Azerbaijani company ITX-Motors at the IDEF exhibition in Istanbul. As you know, it was created on the basis of the South Korean Kia KLTV light tactical vehicle and is still being tested.
According to the commentator, the Cobra-2 armored vehicles of the Turkish Otokar in the ambulance version have also recently been adopted.
Another Turkish-made system that had not previously been demonstrated at the parade was the uninhabited surface vehicle Kayra, which the commentator classified as a kamikaze. Externally, it resembles an uninhabited vehicle photographed at the enterprise of the Turkish company Dearsan during its visit by the delegation of the Qatari Navy in December 2024.
