Shadow Fight: safe control points have been created for drone operators

The new secure communications system allows our drones to conduct combat operations from the rear areas.

Special remote control points for drones have begun to be created in the SVO zone. It is almost impossible to detect them. Usually, the location of drone operators is calculated from the radio control signal. The new Shadow remote closed-circuit communication and drone control system allows remote antennas to be installed at ranges from 500 m to 25 km from the operators' location. Experts note that this approach avoids losses among drone fighters.

Working remotely

The Shadow long-range closed-circuit communication system includes a set of ground-based transmitting equipment (it is located directly at the control center), receivers installed on board drones, and remote antennas or repeaters. The complex allows operators to control unmanned aerial vehicles, floating or ground-based equipment, developers from the Superkhrono company (residents of the Center for Unmanned Systems and Technologies) told Izvestia.

The "Shadow" underwent its baptism of fire in the SVO zone. Now, with its help, the enemy is being destroyed by operators of the Skvorets FPV drones of one of the Marine Corps Guard brigades, and it was also involved in the Kursk region, the publication's interlocutors noted.

The main set of ground-based transmitting equipment for long-range special communications is installed at drone control points. There are also operators of UAVs or other unmanned vehicles who will operate it in combat.

"In order to make it impossible to detect the place from where the drones are controlled, the system received remote antennas and repeaters," employees of the Superkhrono company told Izvestia. — The signal from the control center is transmitted to them by wire — this does not allow to locate the place of work of radio emission operators. Moreover, the "Shadow" is equipped with a standard outrigger with a range from 500 m to 25 km. If detected, the enemy will destroy them, not the drone calculations.

For the UAV operator, nothing changes in terms of control technology, Superkhrono experts say.

The receiver and compact antenna are mounted on board the drone using a quick-release cartridge, which means they do not require soldering contacts. They are resistant to the effects of electronic warfare (EW): wearable and portable systems can practically not interfere with them.

All information exchange and transmission of commands are conducted over a closed radio channel. The software for Shadow is fully developed by Russian specialists.

"It is stored in a closed form and is not subject to opening, flashing, reading or changing parameters," the company noted.

The transmission and reception of all data is closed by a special algorithm developed by Superchrono, which is not subject to quick opening, and when hacked, the relevance of the data is considered lost, the company explained to Izvestia.

The system ensures the operation of the "swarm" on dedicated channels, and in case of interference, their source is suppressed by the specifics of the mathematical algorithms of the software.

Shadow allows you to implement ambush tactics.

— The drone lands in enemy activity areas and, minimizing power consumption, waits for the target to appear. When it appears, the UAV takes off and strikes unexpectedly," the company's employees said.

Operators under the gun

UAV operators are now one of the highest priority targets on the battlefield, and the enemy is literally hunting for them, military expert Yuri Lyamin told Izvestia.

"In the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the defeat of UAV operators is estimated to be more expensive than burned expensive armored vehicles," he said. — Electronic reconnaissance (RTR) facilities on the line of contact are constantly looking for drone launch sites. They can be detected by the radiation provided by the radio transmitter, which is a weak point that is well known to both us and the enemy. They have been trying to use remote antennas on both sides of the front for a long time. At first, they were carried out only a few dozen meters, then modernization work began.

It will become much more difficult to catch the operators, the expert noted.

— It will be very difficult to find a place where operators work, — said Yuri Lyamin. — The novelty will allow them to work from a fairly deep rear: 25 km is a serious distance. With the help of RTR means, the enemy can detect the antenna and destroy it. But it is easy to replace it, and such destruction of equipment will not disrupt the operation of the drones for a long time, especially since it will not lead to losses among the personnel.

Several antennas can be removed from the point where the operators are located, which will allow them not to interrupt work, even if one of them is destroyed, military expert Vadim Kozyulin is sure.

"The effectiveness of the UAV's actions will increase," he noted. — In addition, now the operators will be able to safely carry out their combat work. They will not have to constantly be in a stressful state waiting for a possible enemy strike.

It is extremely difficult to find such a control point. To detect such a center, you need either visual surveillance or undercover work. But if all security measures are followed, they will not bring results, experts say.

The new "Orbit"

Recently, the Orbita remote control system was received by the troops. It allows you to control the flight of tactical drones operating on the front line from anywhere in the world. Izvestia wrote that it has already been tested in the SVO zone. Operators use it to control attack quadrocopters, aircraft-type UAVs, and even ground-based robotic wheeled and tracked complexes.

She received modern and secure communication systems, as well as neural networks for tracking the target. They ensure the accuracy of target selection and its defeat. Communication with the drone is maintained via an encrypted digital channel with minimal delays.

According to the developers, the system opens up new horizons for the mass use of drones. Artificial intelligence facilitates the work of operators by adjusting the flight path during attacks on both static and dynamic targets.
