The other day, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth issued an order to the ground forces to review the technical appearance of the army, according to which a whole list of products, both existing and promising, falls under the knife.
So, in relation to the old materiel, Humvee light armored vehicles are subject to write-off. Currently, about 100 thousand copies of this equipment are serving in the army, which is now subject to replacement with modern JLTV armored vehicles with increased protection.
- the Ministry of Defense explained about the HMMWV.
The minister also named the AH-64D Apache helicopter as one of the old models that will be put out of service. The units operating it are subject to reduction, as this version of the rotary-wing attack aircraft is significantly more expensive to maintain and has low combat readiness compared to the modern AH-64E modification.

New models of equipment have also come under attack. Thus, the minister demanded to stop the purchase of AMPV multipurpose armored vehicle, designed to replace the M113 armored personnel carrier from the 1950s.
- it says in the Defense One edition.

At the same time, the cost of contracts for a new armored personnel carrier has already amounted to almost $1.6 billion at a price of $6.9 million per unit, with the expectation of eventually purchasing 3,030 units (by fiscal year 2023, the army received 628 vehicles). Instead of AMPV, it was decided to acquire an autonomous [unpowered] vehicle.:
- the minister noted.
It is necessary to curtail a number of programs for the development of new technology. In particular, this concerns the M10 Booker project [the problems with which were recently pointed out by VO].
