Bringing tanks to the Leopard 1HEL level will significantly increase the combat capabilities of the Leopard 1A5 MBT, which are in service with the Greek army.
- it is said in the Western press.
The new modification was developed by the local defense company EODH together with the German tank-building concern KNDS. It combines improvements in firepower, protection and mobility, offering a cost-effective solution to increase the combat potential of the Greek army.
The central place in modernization is occupied by the renewal of weapons. The tank receives a new 105 mm cannon capable of firing advanced projectiles and ATGMs. Protection is enhanced by composite and lattice armor, providing increased resistance to modern anti-tank weapons.

The original 830 hp engine is being replaced with a more powerful 1,000 hp power unit, which significantly increases the mobility of the tank and allows it to maintain high speed and maneuverability on rough terrain.
For the Greek Army, which is the world's largest user of Leopard 1 tanks, the Leopard 1HEL upgrade represents a cost-effective solution to maintain the combat capability of armored forces. Currently, the local army has about 500 Leopard 1A4/5 tanks, many of which were produced in the 1970s and 1980s.
