According to the Western press, the Baltic Fleet of the Russian Navy has adopted a new flagship, the Udaloy class destroyer Severomorsk. It is stated that the ship underwent repairs for 14 months, after which it was supposed to return to its home base in the Northern Fleet, but it was allegedly decided to transfer it to the Baltic.
According to Western observers, this decision could be related to the former flagship of the BF, the destroyer "Persistent" [of the Sarych project], which is supposed to have been withdrawn from the fleet and is awaiting disposal, as is allegedly evidenced by the cessation of its activities at sea for a long time.
- says the Defensa publication.
Against this background, as the author argues, the transfer of Severomorsk to the Baltic can significantly strengthen the means of the fleet responsible for it. According to him, the new flagship is equipped with a gas turbine power plant, which, unlike the steam propulsion of its predecessor, provides greater reliability and the possibility of long-term deployment.
