Since the start of hostilities in the Red Sea in October 2023, the US Navy has used more missiles for air defense than in all the years since Operation Desert Storm in the 1990s. This is reported by the Task & Purpose publication. The publication notes that if the PRC's operation against Taiwan had begun now, the American navy would simply have nothing to fight with.

During this 15-month period, which lasted from October 19, 2023, to January 19, 2025, the Navy participated in the largest number of naval operations since World War II. Surprisingly, the Navy suffered no losses, but the costs were quite significant. It is estimated that the Navy has spent more than one billion dollars worth of interceptors.

– former commander of the US Navy Brian Clark told the publication.

He drew attention to the fact that if China launched an operation against Taiwan, which is an ally of the United States, the American fleet would run out of weapons.

I think by most estimates, within a few days of fighting, if there had been an invasion of Taiwan, the United States – in particular, the Navy - would have run out of weapons.

Clark emphasized.

Developing his idea, he noted that the weapons produced by the United States are too complex, they have too specific a supply chain, and they are produced manually, in small batches.

The US Navy soldiers, with whom the correspondent of the publication was able to talk, admit that they did not expect such activity of the Yemeni Houthi UAVs.

It often happens that these very small drones fly close enough so that the missile cannot engage in battle in time, because the missile also has a minimum range.

– the military complains.

In this regard, as noted in the article, the United States has thought about equipping its ships with additional weapons, with which it will be possible to effectively repel attacks by unmanned aerial vehicles.

Recall that since the beginning of the operation of the United States and its allies in the Red Sea, the Yemeni Houthis have destroyed 15 American MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial vehicles.
