At IDEX 2025, held in the UAE, the South Korean company Hyundai Rotem presented the K2ME tank, a variant of the K2 Black Panther MBT for customers from the Middle East. In particular, possible deals with Saudi Arabia and the UAE involving technology transfer are being worked out.

Analysts estimate that the value of potential contracts with these two countries is estimated at about $12.42 billion.

The K2ME is designed for use in hot climates and desert conditions and is equipped with improved cooling and filtration systems. The crew consists of three people: the driver is in the front of the hull, the commander and the gunner are in the turret.

The combat weight of the K2ME is approximately 60 tons, measuring 10.9 x 3.6 x 2.5 meters. It is equipped with a 1,500 hp diesel engine from HD Hyundai Infracore combined with an automatic transmission. The tank can reach a maximum speed of 68 km/h on paved roads and 50 km/h off-road. It is equipped with an In-Arm system (hydropneumatic suspension) and a dynamic track tension mechanism to enhance mobility.

The developer pointed out that the integration of the South Korean powertrain into K2ME eliminates the risk of export restrictions and improves maintenance capabilities. This engine has already demonstrated its performance by being installed on the Turkish Altay tank. Hyundai Rotem has optimized the K2ME cooling system to operate at high temperatures.

The main armament is represented by a 120-mm smoothbore 55-caliber cannon with an automatic loading system. The MBT arsenal includes 40 shells, including programmable ammunition. Auxiliary armament includes a 12.7mm remote-controlled model on the commander's turret and a 7.62mm twin machine gun next to the main gun. The tower is equipped with built-in blocks of 8 grenade launchers on each side.

The K2ME has advanced composite armor covering the hull and turret. It is also equipped with a KAZ and a means of jamming drones.
