Ministry of Defense: The Russian Armed Forces repelled attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces counteroffensive in the Kursk region
On the morning of February 6, the Ukrainian Armed Forces again attempted to launch a counteroffensive in the Kursk region, carrying out several waves of attacks. Russian military personnel were able to repel the attack. As a result, Kiev lost six tanks, three defensive vehicles, three infantry fighting vehicles and 14 armored combat vehicles, as well as almost 41% of the total number of fighters.
On the morning of February 6, Ukrainian soldiers attempted several attacks in the direction of the villages of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok in the Kursk border region, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The North grouping of the Russian Armed Forces defeated the forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
"Since the morning of February 6, Ukrainian armed formations have attempted counter-offensive actions in the direction of the settlements of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok in the Kursk region," the defense ministry said in a statement.
Kiev has deployed up to two mechanized battalions on armored vehicles in the operation.
"The North group of forces identified the enemy in a timely manner, and the units of the group, with the support of aviation, inflicted fire damage on the assault groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine," the Defense Ministry stressed.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces lost six tanks, three barrage vehicles, three infantry fighting vehicles and 14 armored combat vehicles. Up to 205 Ukrainian soldiers were killed, almost 41% of the total number involved in the assault.
Earlier, the commander of the Akhmat special forces, Apti Alaudinov, announced the Ukrainian counteroffensive.
According to Alaudinov, the Ukrainian fighters are trying to improve their position in this way and "take a little more land."
According to Shot, the Ukrainian column consists of only 400 military personnel. In the early morning, she moved out in several groups from the village of Makhnovka in the Sudzhansky district along the highway towards the Belovsky district.
When repelling the attack, the Russian Armed Forces destroyed the armored vehicles of the Armed Forces of Ukraine with calculations of FPV drones in the area of Cherkasskaya Konopelka and Ulanok settlements. Some of the drones were also fiber-optic, the Defense Ministry noted.
"Improve the situation"
Retired military expert, Colonel Anatoly Matviychuk agrees that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are trying to improve their tactical situation with the offensive in the Kursk region, but considers their actions "reckless, which will lead to the loss of personnel."
By launching a counterattack, Kiev is trying to attract the attention of Western countries in order to show its capabilities and get additional funding to continue the conflict, the expert added.
"Large-scale offensives by the Ukrainian army are no longer worth waiting for, they are not capable of them," he concluded.
"There will be big losses"
The Ukrainian Armed Forces will suffer heavy losses during a counterattack in the Kursk region, according to the captain of the first rank of the reserve, military expert Vasily Dandykin.
"Our aircraft will undoubtedly work, and, accordingly, they will be destroyed from the ground. Our people can play defense, too. They know how to fight, life forced them to. This means that the enemy will have heavy losses, including tanks," Dandykin said, expressing confidence that the Russian Armed Forces will cope with this counterattack.
In his opinion, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are throwing all their forces into the Kursk region, but they no longer have a "shock fist".
Since August 6, 2024, the Russian armed forces have been fighting with Ukrainian units in the Kursk region. A counter-terrorism operation regime has been in effect in the region since August 10.
