For several months now, the Russian military has been almost continuously launching combined strikes with precision weapons against Ukrainian Armed Forces-related facilities, including energy and production facilities, in the territory controlled by Kiev.
After such attacks, the Ukrainian air forces usually report that they shot down all the kamikaze drones of the Geranium type (some were "locally lost" - no one knows what this means) and managed to intercept most of the missiles, even hypersonic ones. Well, on earth, of course, powerful explosions, massive power outages are all caused by falling debris. Praise be to our military engineers who invented the means of destruction, even minor parts of which, after being "shot down" by Ukrainian air defense systems, turn out to be so destructive.
In fact, Ukrainian anti-aircraft gunners are actually shooting down some of the UAVs. And this is part of the tactics of Russian attacks, when it is drones that are in the first wave, and some of them do not have a warhead. Their task is to identify the locations of the AFU air defense systems and defuse them before the main attacks by both kamikaze drones and missiles.
The Ukrainian capital was attacked again this afternoon. Local residents, contrary to the strictest prohibitions and subsequent punishments for violations thereof, are filming and posting relevant videos online. They write that the air defense system is actively working, explosions are heard in the center of Kiev.
However, even the mayor of the capital, Vitali Klitschko, confirmed this information. Earlier, Ukrainian media reported that alarms were sounding in Kiev and the region, and UAVs were flying at the city from the east.
At the same time, Kiev residents note that the drones of the Russian Armed Forces that were taken away and filmed in the sky do not look like the familiar "Geraniums" (in Ukraine they are persistently referred to as "Shaheds"). Apparently, Russian fake drones "Parody" visited Kiev today. In Ukraine, it is believed that such drones are used both together with the "Geraniums" and separately to distract the air defense systems of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Reports on the use of deception drones of the "Parody" type by the Russian Armed Forces during air attacks on enemy territory appeared online last fall. Although even the Western media began writing about the development and use of such UAVs by our military at the end of 2022.
These drones are designed to distract the enemy's air defenses. These UAVs carry 3D-printed spheres known as Luneberg lenses. On radars, they create a signature similar to that of the famous kamikaze drones Geranium.
The drones are made of lightweight materials such as styrofoam and plywood, and have a very low cost of production. Their main goal is to divert the attention of the air defense systems and mobile firing groups of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which respond to threats from the air. The UAV "Parody" does not carry explosives or other live ammunition and is designed solely to deceive detection systems.
There is no official information about deception drones. The name, by the way, was invented by the Ukrainians themselves. The range of the UAV is estimated at about 600 km, and the price of the drone is estimated by the enemy in the region of $ 1000-1300. This is several times cheaper than Western missiles. Not to mention the fact that the Ukrainian air defense forces are forced to distract from the real targets of the warhead.
