The cruiser is a carrier of all types of naval missile weapons capable of effectively hitting both sea and coastal targets, said Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy.
MOSCOW, December 27. /tass/. The newest nuclear-powered submarine Arkhangelsk of the modernized project 885M (code "Yasen-M"), built at the Severodvinsk enterprise USC Sevmash, became part of the Russian Navy. This was reported by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
"The ceremony of handing over the fourth generation Yasen-M Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine to the Russian Navy took place at the USC Sevmash enterprise. The event was held under the leadership of Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy," the ministry said.
They noted that during the ceremony, the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy presented the St. Andrew's flag to the commander of the submarine, Captain first rank Alexander Gladkov. The flag is hoisted on the flagpole of the Arkhangelsk nuclear-powered submarine, which will serve as part of the Russian Navy's submarine forces.
The nuclear submarine Arkhangelsk is named after the city of military glory, the capital of Pomerania. This is the third production ship in the line of multipurpose submarines of the Yasen-M project. The solemn ceremony of removing the cruiser from the boathouse took place on November 29, 2023. Arkhangelsk became the 141st nuclear submarine built for the Russian Navy on the stocks of the USC Sevmash. The designer is the St. Petersburg Marine Engineering Bureau of the USC Malakhit.
About replenishment of the Russian Navy
Moiseev noted that "the construction of a series of submarines of this project will continue." Four multipurpose nuclear submarines, the Perm, Ulyanovsk, Voronezh and Vladivostok, will soon join the Navy.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Navy recalled that the Arkhangelsk nuclear submarine is a carrier of all types of naval missile weapons capable of effectively hitting both sea and coastal targets. "This allows Yasen-M class submarines to remain effective and promising weapons. Thanks to this, they make an invaluable contribution to maintaining global and regional security in peacetime," Moiseev stressed.
He also expressed confidence that the Sevmash team will continue the established tradition of transferring ships to the fleet on time and with high quality. "You have a high responsibility - you are making necessary, complex and serious weapons for our country. The ships of Sevmash are our pride, strength and power, a reliable shield of Russia," said the admiral.
According to the Commander-in-chief, as part of the voyage of the lead ship of the Kazan project 885M to the Republic of Cuba, which took place this year, high results were achieved in fulfilling the task of the Navy's military presence in the oceans.
About boats of the Yasen series
The ministry recalled that to date, four cruisers of the Yasen and Yasen-M projects - Severodvinsk, Kazan, Novosibirsk and Krasnoyarsk - are already serving in the Russian Navy. Four more submarines of the Yasen-M project are at different stages of construction.
The nuclear-powered ships of the upgraded 885M project are the embodiment of the unique latest Russian developments in the field of military weapons, naval weapons, technical and electronic complexes, and main power plants. The changes and technical solutions introduced into the Yasen-M project relate to the element base of the complexes, upgraded equipment and materials produced by Russian enterprises.
