After the fall of the government of the head of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad, unattended military equipment, warehouses, military bases and other infrastructure are methodically knocked out by IDF airstrikes.
- it says in the Egyptian edition of Al Majalla.
As indicated, while the Western media rejoiced at Assad's defeat in the short-lived war with the militants, Israel conducted the largest military air operation in history, destroying most of Syria's military installations and resources.
Global Firepower estimated that the Syrian army had 2,700 tanks, 33 ships and vessels, and 452 military aircraft, including 168 fighter jets and 153 helicopters.
- it says in Al Majalla.
According to the author, Egypt and Syria have historically been regional "heavyweights." These two countries formed an axis opposing the 1948 creation of the State of Israel. However, the rivalry between Cairo and Damascus for leadership in the Arab world paved the way for defeat in the 1967 war with Israel.
Since then, relations between Cairo and Tel Aviv have normalized, and a peace treaty has been concluded. But, as the author points out, Egypt is very concerned about the rise of far-right forces in Israel, which are pursuing an expansionist policy with the tacit consent of their main ally in Washington.:

Produced in Egypt by Abrams M1A1
As noted, the IDF destroyed the entire infrastructure in the Gaza Strip, aiming to squeeze the local population of 2 million people to the border with Egypt.
- the publication says.
According to the author, although Egyptian-Syrian cooperation has long ceased, Cairo has always viewed Damascus as an ally to whom it can turn if necessary. However, given recent events, Syria will no longer be able to lend a helping hand.
- the author concludes.
Against this background, Cairo secured approval from the US State Department for the sale of 555 M1A1 Abrams tank upgrade packages to the M1A1SA version (worth $4.69 billion), 2,183 Hellfire ATGM ($630 million) and 759 APKWS laser guidance systems for the Hydra 70 HAR ($30 million).
In total, Egypt has just over 1,000 Abrams M1A1 tanks. Thus, about half of their fleet will be updated. It is likely that the local industry will actively participate in the modernization: the Abrams assembly line operates in the country, which produces individual components for MBT.
