Chinese cosmonauts set a record for the longest spacewalk, spending more than 9 hours outside the station.

The new record for the longest stay in outer space now belongs to astronauts from China. According to the Chinese Manned Space Administration (CMSEO), Cai Xiuzhe and Song Lidong spent more than nine hours outside the station.

The spacewalk began on Monday at 11:51 p.m. Eastern time, when the commander of the Shenzhou-19 crew, Cai Xiuzhe, exited the Wentian module. Song Lidong followed him more than 90 minutes later, at 1:32 a.m.

The ministry adds that the astronauts carried out work inside the gateway and on the outside of the Wentian laboratory module of the Chinese Tiangong space station. They installed anti-meteorite protection panels on the module's temperature control system, and inspected the cladding and equipment.

It is worth noting that the previous record for the longest stay in outer space belonged to American astronauts, who spent 8 hours and 54 minutes outside the station in 2001.

We should add that according to current standards, the time of a spacewalk is counted from the moment the airlock is depressurized until the pressure returns suitable for breathing.
