The Airbus concern has begun flight tests of the Eurofighter Typhoon equipped with the Captor-E Mk 1 radar from AFAR.
This radar is needed by the Spanish Air Force, which plans to receive 20 new Eurofighter fighters built according to the improved Tranche 4 standard and improve at least 5 Tranche 3A vehicles from the existing fleet as part of the air fleet modernization program. All these instances must be equipped with the Captor-E Mk 1 radar.
- it is said in the Western press.
In addition, the Captor-E Mk 1 radar will be installed on the new Eurofighter Tranche 4 of the German Air Force, as well as on the upgraded Tranche 2/3A of the Luftwaffe (for a total of 150 aircraft). Britain plans to equip its own Eurofighter fleet with a radar of another modification – the Captor-E Mk 2.

The Captor-E, being the first AFAR radar for the Eurofighter, was developed jointly by Hensoldt (Germany), Leonardo (Italy) and Indra (Spain).
- noted in the Hensoldt company.
The Mk1 modification, using the previous components of the basic version, is a new digital multichannel receiver and a set of transmission-reception modules (TRM) with significantly increased bandwidth. These advanced features allow you to implement new functions such as electronic warfare, improved target recognition and ultra-high resolution images thanks to a synthesized aperture.
