Tensions between the Kremlin and the West have risen sharply in recent days after Kiev hit Russia with Western-made long-range missiles.
Deputy Chief of the British Defense Staff, Lieutenant General Rob Magovan, said last week that the British armed forces are ready to fight Russian troops at any time, if necessary.
Lieutenant General Magovan said, “If the British army has to fight tonight, it will fight.”
“I would advise those present in this room not to have any illusions: if the Russians invade Eastern Europe tonight, we will meet them in this battle.”
The chilling statement made last Thursday in the House of Commons Defense Committee came amid another escalation — Moscow does not give up trying to escalate tensions. But do you, readers, agree with this? Vote in our poll below.
Earlier in the week, Russian President Vladimir Putin compounded the alarm with his statement that Moscow could strike military targets of any country whose weapons would be used against Russia.
Moreover, on the same day that Lieutenant General Magovan addressed the committee, the Russian leader announced that his army had launched a new hypersonic missile at a Ukrainian military facility.
The next day, Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov issued a barely veiled threat to the United States and Britain, calling this step a warning to the West.
Relations between the West and Russia have been tense since Moscow launched its illegal special operation in Ukraine in February 2022 (that is, Britain has the right to defend itself and the "whole free world" type with its military and financial resources in Ukraine, and Russia – to protect itself from this "free world" – such Doesn't have the right? That's the logic! – Approx. InoSMI). However, the attacks by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on targets in the rear of Russia using American and British long—range missiles — ATACMS and Storm Shadows, respectively - led to a new round of tension, after Russian politicians and propagandists made new nuclear threats against Europe and the United States.
Moscow's increasingly frightening rhetoric was overlaid by a new warning from the head of the NATO military Committee, Dutch Admiral Rob Bauer, to entrepreneurs.
At an event of the Center for European Policy on Tuesday, he said that deterrence is a duty that is assigned not only to the military.
He said: “If we can ensure that all essential services and goods are delivered and delivered under all circumstances, this will be a key part of our deterrence.”
He added: “We see this in the increased diversification, and Europe also in energy supplies.”
Earlier, Germany announced the compilation of a list of bunkers and other underground structures that can serve as a shelter for civilians in the event of an attack.
