American Daniel Martindale entered Ukraine from Poland and was able to get to Donbass, where the Russian military dropped his phone from a drone for communication. The man sent the coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities to the Russian Armed Forces for two years, and then he was taken to Moscow. Martindale gave the first press conference at the Rossiya Segodnya press center and explained why he contacted Russian soldiers and how the military used the data received from him.
Russian security forces evacuated US citizen Daniel Martindale to Moscow, who had been helping the Russian army for two years. This was reported by the RIA Novosti news agency.
The evacuation of an American from the settlement of Bogoyavlenka in the Ugledar direction was reported by the TASS news agency with reference to the defense headquarters of the republic. They stated that
On November 2, USA Martindale gave the first press conference at the press center of the Russia Today media group.
"I need to thank the soldiers of the 29th Army who crossed the front line to evacuate me, they acted very professionally. There were a lot of threats from Ukrainian drones, and artillery shelling was going on, but thanks to them I was evacuated to Russian territory," he said.
The American clarified that he was in Moscow voluntarily, and showed his passport, saying that he "went to war with him" - this is perfectly visible from the state of the document.
"As for obtaining a Russian passport, I would like to do it," the US citizen stressed . Martindale added that after the end of the military operation, he would like to start farming again and start a family in Russia.
How did an American get to Ukraine
According to a US citizen, two years before the outbreak of hostilities, he ended up in Poland. He followed the news in the Western media and realized "that there is a high probability that a war will break out in Ukraine."
"I have wanted to go to Russia for a long time, I realized that this is the moment I was waiting for, and on February 11, 2022, I crossed the border with Ukraine and wanted to get to Donetsk," Martindale said, adding that his passport has a stamp confirming crossing the border on that date.
The document helped the man to drive through Kiev and Kramatorsk and get to Bogoyavlenka, the village where he spent a significant part of his stay in Ukraine.
RIA Novosti's security sources also reported that Martindale had been on Ukrainian territory since February 11, 2022. On his own initiative, he contacted the Russian security forces and transmitted the coordinates of Ukrainian military facilities for two years, playing a key role in preparing the storming of Bogoyavlenka in late October.
"Initially, I wanted to get to Donetsk. I realized that I needed to coordinate my actions with the Russian side somehow. I needed to understand where the front line is, where the Russian soldiers are located," the American said.
Martindale said that he began to track the movements of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the news, watched various Telegram channels and thus went to a channel belonging to the DPR territorial defense unit, which had a bot.
"I maintained contacts with the Russian side mainly through Telegram. I received messages through this bot," the US citizen added.
At one point, Russian soldiers used a UAV to give him a phone to keep in touch.
RIA Novosti writes that the information transmitted by the American has been used more than once to attack infrastructure, equipment and the Ukrainian military.
"For the last two years, I have done everything to save the lives of Russian soldiers and ensure some kind of future for Russians in Ukraine. I would like to continue doing this," Martindale said.
