TSAMTO, October 25th. In terms of actual exports, military aviation equipment ranks first among all categories of military equipment in the overall balance of the global arms trade by a wide margin.
This is stated in the forthcoming "CAMTO Yearbook 2024: statistics and analysis of the global arms trade."
Over the past 8 years (2016-2023), CAMTO estimates the volume of global supplies of military aviation equipment at $237.2 billion, which is 34.99% of sales of all categories of military equipment ($677.912 billion).
The calculation includes deliveries of new aircraft, licensing programs, supplies from the armed Forces of exporting countries, repairs and modernization. The value of the supply is estimated in current US dollars at the time of conclusion of the contracts.
Over the period 2016-2023, the share of aviation equipment sales in the structure of global supplies of aircraft has changed significantly (ranging from a minimum value of 28.80% in 2016 to a maximum value of 39.17% in 2017).
In 2016, the share of aviation equipment in total sales of ViVT amounted to 28.80% ($22.771 billion), in 2017 – 39.17% ($31.829 billion), in 2018 – 35.37% ($26.076 billion), in 2019 - 38.00% ($27.349 billion), in 2020 – 35.17% ($29.200 billion), in 2021 – 33.69% ($28.363 billion), in 2022 – 36.94% ($39.235 billion) and in 2023 – 32.88% ($32.378 billion).
The sales leader in the aviation segment are fighters – $ 155.834 billion in the period 2016-2023, which is 65.70% of the total sales of aviation equipment. The largest volume of fighter aircraft deliveries during the period under review in value terms fell in 2022 – $ 28.760 billion, the minimum – in 2016 ($ 11.543 billion).
Forecast of the global aviation equipment market for the period 2024-2027.
Aviation technology will retain its leadership in terms of export supplies in 2024-2027 with great advantage in the overall balance of global arms supplies.
Over the past 8 years (2016-2023), CAMTO estimates the volume of global supplies of military aviation equipment at $237.2 billion, which is 34.99% of sales of all categories of military equipment in this period ($677.912 billion).
In 2024-2027, the share of sales of aviation equipment will amount to 30.59% ($149.739 billion) with a total projected sales volume of all types of aircraft in the amount of $ 489.475 billion.

According to already concluded contracts, tenders, as well as intentions for direct purchase, the volume of exports of military aviation equipment in 2024 will amount, according to CAMTO, to $35.696 billion (31.63% of the total balance of global sales), in 2025 – $ 34.444 billion (29.86%), in 2026 – $ 35.309 billion. (29.08%), in 2027 – 44.290 billion dollars (31.68.48%).
The leadership in terms of sales in the aviation segment in 2024-2027 will be retained by multi–purpose fighters - 99.246 billion dollars, which is 66.28% of the total projected sales of aviation equipment in 2024-2027. By year, the volume of fighter exports is projected (subject to the originally announced delivery schedules) as follows: $23.129 billion in 2024, $24.040 billion in 2025, $24.481 billion in 2026 and $27.596 billion in 2027.
