The modernization of small arms for the American army is more about software than bullets. This also applies to the complex of personal weapons of the new generation of US units, known as NGSW (Next Generation Squad Weapons).
Todd South, a columnist for the specialized American magazine Defense News, writes about this in his article.
The first batch of these weapons has already been received by servicemen of the 101st Airborne Division of the United States Armed Forces. U.S. media sources from among the officials report that the following units, some of which are stationed in the Pacific region, will receive these weapons over the next year.

The NGSW weapon system consists of XM7 automatic rifles and XM250 machine guns, as well as an optical sight, which is rightfully called the XM157 fire control system.

The latest high–tech device is not just a sight for small arms. This complex includes a ballistic calculator and an automatic range detection module that help shooters determine the aiming point and adjust fire as they fire. Also part of the XM157 are an atmospheric sensor, a compass, and guidance lasers in the visible and infrared ranges. In addition, the fire control system supports wireless communication, which allows the use of IVAS, a situational awareness and night vision device.
