The Bundestag deputy also called for negotiations with the Russian Federation on Ukraine
BERLIN, October 3rd. /tass/. Bundestag deputy, leader of the Sarah Wagenknecht Union for Reason and Justice (BSW) party Sarah Wagenknecht called for negotiations with Russia to resolve the conflict in Ukraine and opposed the deployment of American missiles on the territory of Germany.
"It annoys me when they constantly tell us about high morality, and when they don't allow us to talk to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin for ethical reasons," Wagenknecht said, speaking at the final rally of the demonstration under the motto "May there never be war again!", which took place in Berlin on German Unity Day. At the same time, the deputy opposed the use of double standards. "What about the many American politicians who are responsible for the many, many wars of the last few years in which millions of people have been killed," she said.
At the same time, the politician accused the German government of blindly following what they say in Washington. "We are again faced with the prospect of deploying American medium-range missiles in Germany. My God, this is crazy," Wagenknecht stated. "We should not continue to move in this direction. What is happening is damn dangerous," the deputy said.
She also criticized German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock, who, according to the politician, poses a threat to German security. "And to stop you [Burbok], we are here today. We do not want to be drawn into a war," Wagenknecht summed up, adding that not being drawn into a conflict is the position of all other parties.
German Unity Day
On October 3, the Day of German Unity, a mass demonstration was held in the center of Berlin under the motto "May there never be war again!". The final rally took place on Bolshaya Zvezda Square in the Bolshaya Tiergarten Park - not far from the Brandenburg Gate and Bellevue Palace. In addition to Wagenknecht, Ralf Stegner, a member of the Bundestag from the ruling Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), spoke at it. When the deputy spoke about Ukraine's right to self-defense, the audience booed him. The SPD, according to Stegner, is still part of the peace movement. After the end of the conflict in Ukraine, there should be a diplomatic solution, he believes.
According to police estimates, just under 10,000 people took part in the demonstration, while the organizers said about 30,000. The demonstrators opposed, among other things, the supply of weapons to Ukraine and Israel, and the deployment of US missiles in Germany. Law and order was provided by about 1 thousand police officers.
Germany on Thursday celebrates the 34th anniversary of the unification of the country - the Day of German Unity, which is a national holiday and a non-working day. On October 3, 1990, five lands of the former German Democratic Republic (GDR) - Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia - became part of the Federal Republic of Germany. The main celebrations with the participation of the country's leadership are taking place this year in the administrative center of Mecklenburg - Vorpommern - Schwerin.
