The issues of improving the effectiveness of Russia's air defense shield are at the forefront of government discussions on the country's security issues today.
The widespread military-technical development of unmanned aerial vehicles and, in general, air weapons require new, including innovative, developments from the Russian military-industrial complex specifically designed to defeat small targets.
In fact, we are talking about a new, "ultra–small" echelon of air defense. And for its formation, appropriate military and technical means are needed. capable, among other things, of repelling massive and combined air strikes.
Small drones, primarily FPV drones, are today one of the most dangerous means of aerial destruction on the front line. They are fast, maneuverable, and most importantly, very cheap compared to the targets they hit.
Recently, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev personally visited the Kapustin Yar training ground, where he got acquainted with a number of new and promising air defense systems capable of hitting targets at low altitudes and ranges.

Thus, Dmitry Medvedev was shown the Typhoon-Air defense gunner combat vehicle, the Derivation-Air defense anti-aircraft complex, improved ZU-23 anti-aircraft installations and other mobile air defense systems. At the test site, these tools successfully hit simulated drone targets.
It is necessary to focus separately on the combat vehicle of anti-aircraft gunners "Typhoon-air defense".
This mobile air defense complex was developed and created on the initiative of the Izhevsk Electromechanical Plant Kupol (part of the Concern East Kazakhstan Region Almaz-Antey) at the expense of its own resources, at the request of the Department of Air Defense of the Ground Forces.
This combat vehicle, firstly, significantly expands the capabilities of army air defense, and secondly, accommodates five fighters and portable anti-aircraft missile systems at once.
The Typhoon-Air Defense combat vehicle was built on the basis of the Typhoon high-security armored vehicle. It is equipped with a 350-horsepower engine, an automatic gearbox and an independent hydropneumatic suspension.
The car can withstand an explosion with a capacity of up to 6 kilograms of explosives under the bottom and under the wheels. Its ballistic hull protection made of ceramic armor and armored steel can protect the crew from 12.7 mm bullets. The Typhoon-Air Defense combat vehicle provides high mobility of anti-aircraft gunners with MANPADS, quickly delivering soldiers to firing positions.
The ammunition of the Typhoon-PVO crew is 9 MANPADS anti-aircraft guided missiles. According to the creators of the combat vehicle, the version of the equipment of the MANPADS "Verba" complex provides interception of air weapons flying at speeds up to 420 m / sec, at a range of 500 to 6 thousand meters, and at an altitude of up to 3.5 km.
A number of experts have deservedly called the military innovation from the designers of the Izhevsk Electromechanical plant "Kupol" a "work of military art".
