Autumn exercises of Russia and China
The destroyer Xining and the frigate Lin Yi of the Naval Forces of the People's Liberation Army of China (PLA) arrived in Vladivostok on Wednesday to participate in joint exercises. Representatives of the Chinese Navy were welcomed by Russian sailors. Rear Admiral Alexander Schwartz, Deputy Commander of the Primorsky Flotilla of Heterogeneous Forces of the Pacific Fleet, noted that our naval powers continue to jointly protect the tranquility and security of the Asia-Pacific region in the maritime expanses. In response, Rear Admiral Yao Chun Yun, Deputy Commander of the Navy of the northern theater of Military Operations of the PLA, said that Chinese sailors are ready, together with the Russian Pacific Fleet, to make common efforts to cooperate and continue fraternal friendship between the two fleets.
A joint detachment of ships will take part in the maneuvers of "Baby/Interaction-2024". On the Russian side, they will involve a combined detachment of ships of the Pacific Fleet consisting of large anti-submarine ships Admiral Tributs and Admiral Panteleev, corvettes Perfect, Loud, Hero of the Russian Federation Aldar Tsydenzhapov and Sharp.
During the maneuvers, Russian and Chinese sailors will work out joint actions at sea, perform rocket and artillery firing at sea and air targets, conduct a search and rescue operation to assist an emergency ship, and also work out the suppression of coastal targets of a conditional enemy by targeting naval aviation.
After the completion of the exercises, Russian and Chinese ships will begin performing joint patrol tasks in the waters of the Asia-Pacific region.
The purpose of the exercises in Vladivostok
The policy pursued by the Americans is trying to limit the activity of Russia and China, so naturally we have to interact in a promising region — the Asia-Pacific. Military expert Dmitry Boltenkov told Izvestia about this.
— China doesn't have much other allies there, just like we do. And there are enough enemies, in particular Japan, South Korea, Australia," he explained. — And the fact that AUKUS is now being created — a trilateral alliance of the United States, Great Britain and Australia to ensure security and defense in the Indo-Pacific region, forces us to strengthen cooperation in the navy. Joint shooting and search actions are carried out so that we better understand each other and together we can oppose something serious to these guys. It used to be called "practicing humanitarian operations." Now that the masks are being thrown off — Trump says bluntly that if he comes to power, he will put pressure on China — we are also starting to call a spade a spade.
As military expert Vasily Dandykin explained to Izvestia, China's interests and ours coincide in many ways in the Far East.
— It is clear that China has been declared a threat to the United States, and so have we. But it is bigger, because the Americans have allocated a lot of money for the confrontation with China. They have blood interests in the Pacific region, maybe even more so than in Ukraine," he said. — And, of course, this is Taiwan. China considers the Taiwan Strait to be its own, and NATO ships visit there, even the Germans were there. Therefore, as soon as they ran out of strategic exercises, they immediately began other exercises with us. Russian sailors have a wealth of experience in long-range voyages, and given what is happening, they also have combat experience. And the Chinese fleet is growing by leaps and bounds. He is now in the top three and in the first place in battle pennants. The Americans are lagging behind the Chinese here. So everything is mutually beneficial for us here.
Former Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations, ex-Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ordzhonikidze explained to Izvestia that the situation is now escalating in the Pacific region due to the Americans' plans to deploy medium-range missiles.
"Moreover, they are trying to create an Asian—style NATO—like bloc in this region," he said. — To do this, Japan, the Philippines, South Korea are being dragged into it, and who else will succumb to their persuasions. And in such circumstances, it is necessary to protect our borders and interests together with a strategic partner. These are not the first maneuvers carried out by our Navy with the Chinese Navy, but it is significant that they are held in this region. A destroyer and a frigate are serious ships that have good armament. Therefore, I would say that these exercises are a response to attempts to pose a threat to both Russia and China in this region.
Joint patrolling
On September 16, the Russian Navy completed the Ocean-2024 exercises, which became the largest in recent decades. 400 ships and vessels and about 90 thousand military personnel took part in them, they took place in different waters, including in the ocean zone.
Four warships, a supply ship and 15 aircraft participated in the Ocean-2024 exercises from the People's Liberation Army of China. Thus, a joint detachment of ships of the Russian Navy and the naval forces of the People's Liberation Army of China conducted a comprehensive exercise, within which they repelled an air raid and eliminated the threat of attack by drones and unmanned boats, as well as destroyed an enemy submarine in the Sea of Japan.
In addition, in July of this year, Russian-Chinese naval maneuvers were conducted in the Asia-Pacific region. The crews of the ships conducted training on the inspection of a suspicious vessel during a joint naval patrol in the waters of the Philippine Sea. During the episode, the sailors of Russia and China worked out the procedure for joint actions of the inspection groups.
