On September 16, 2024, Lockheed Martin (USA) demonstrated the JASSM-XR, a new air-to-surface missile of the JASSM family.
The JASSM-ER and LRASM missiles served as the basis for creating a new product with an increased range.
The AGM-158 XR retains the trapezoidal appearance and unobtrusive design typical of the JASSM family, but is large in size, which allows the rocket to be equipped with additional fuel and a heavier warhead. This will enable aircraft to launch from a safer distance and cause increased damage to the enemy.
As predicted, the AGM-158 XR will reach a range of fire comparable to or exceeding the Tomahawk missile range, that is, about 1,600 km.
- it says on the concern's website.

The AGM-158 XR is designed to be compatible with a wide range of platforms. It can be carried by all aircraft (F-35, F-22, F-15) capable of using JASSM or LRASM, with the exception of the F-16. The company is also considering options for deploying a new product on board the VTS. There is potential for the development of land-based modifications.
Lockheed Martin has set a production target of 1,100 JASSM-XR missiles per year with the possibility of manufacturing different versions depending on demand. Currently, the concern continues to develop the rocket, which will take several years. Flight tests are expected soon.
