The ships fired at a conditional target in the Barents Sea during the Ocean exercise
MOSCOW, 13 Sep - RIA Novosti. The ships of the Northern Fleet carried out artillery firing at a simulated naval target in the Barents Sea as part of the Ocean-2024 exercise, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"As part of the strategic command and staff exercise Ocean - 2024, a naval strike group of the Northern Fleet struck a simulated enemy in the waters of the Barents Sea. The frigates Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov and Admiral Golovko operated as part of the naval strike group of the Northern Fleet. The calculations of the frigate command posts have worked out actions to issue target designation for the use of artillery weapons of ships," the message says.
According to the agency, the personnel of the combat crews of the artillery complexes performed actions to receive target designation for a surface target, firing was carried out by the AK-192M artillery complex at a marine target position simulating a simulated enemy ship and located at a distance of more than 10 kilometers.
"The means of objective control confirmed that the target was successfully hit. The crews of the ship showed coherence of actions, high professionalism and readiness to use weapons in any situation. In order to counteract the high-precision weapons of a simulated enemy, passive jamming by electronic warfare complexes was also practiced on ships," the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation added.
In accordance with the training plan of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, formations and associations of the Navy have begun to participate in the strategic command and staff exercise "Ocean-2024", which will last until September 16 inclusive. The exercise is being held in a bilateral format under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, and will become one of the main events of operational and combat training of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in 2024.
The Ministry of Defense noted that more than 400 warships, submarines and support vessels of the auxiliary fleet, more than 120 aircraft and helicopters of naval aviation and Aerospace Forces, about 7 thousand units of weapons, military equipment are involved in the maneuvers that take place in the waters of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, the Caspian and the Baltic Seas and special equipment, as well as more than 90 thousand personnel.
The Defense Ministry designated as the main tasks of the strategic command and staff exercise "Ocean-2024" the verification of the readiness of the leadership of the associations and formations of the Russian Navy to manage heterogeneous groupings of forces in their areas of responsibility, solving non-standard operational tasks, the integrated use of high-precision weapons, promising and modern weapons and military equipment in the course of practical part of the exercise, as well as the expansion of cooperation with the naval forces of the partner countries in solving joint tasks at sea.
Okean is the code name for naval exercises conducted by the Main Command of the USSR Navy in 1970, 1975, 1977, 1983 and 1985. The Ocean exercises (maneuvers) were the largest operational and combat training events of the USSR Navy in the post-war period and the largest in world history for their time.
