The St. Petersburg enterprise ODK-Klimov of the United Engine Corporation and Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University (St. Petersburg Polytechnic University) have agreed on joint training of engineers for engine building. The parties signed an agreement on the establishment of the basic department "Aircraft engines, power plants and automatic control systems".

The main goal of creating a new department at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University is the targeted training of young engineers for UEC-Klimov. The basic department will prepare bachelors in the profile "Turbines and aircraft engines" within the framework of the direction "Energy engineering", and under the program "Aircraft engines and power plants" — masters. The first applicants will start their studies this academic year.

"We continue to develop cooperation after the successful implementation of several joint programs at the Higher School of Energy Engineering. The creation of a basic department is an important step towards deepening the specialization of engineering personnel training in accordance with our requirements for the competencies of university graduates," said Andrey Melekhin, Deputy General Designer — Chief Designer of the ODK-Klimov Design Bureau.

ODK-Klimov and St. Petersburg Polytechnic University have developed a plan for the upcoming training, have formed a program and are now completing the teaching staff.

The creation of a new department at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University will open up opportunities for students to master the principles of designing aircraft engines, reading and understanding design documentation. They will learn how to choose the best methods and materials for manufacturing parts, develop technological documentation for simple parts and assembly units, and perform strength calculations in the development of promising engines.

Future designers will receive competencies in metallurgy, will consider in detail the principles of operation of hybrid power plants and will be able to develop schemes for automatic engine control systems. The children will be taught how to solve problems in multidisciplinary conceptual design, perform electromagnetic and thermal calculations.

In the new academic year, personnel training for the industry will be conducted in two master's degree programs in the field of engine engineering. At the request of UEC and with the direct participation of UEC-Klimov, students will begin training in a promising master's program, which is being implemented within the framework of the Advanced Engineering School "Digital Engineering" project of SPbPU — "Advanced digital Technologies in Engine Building". It is aimed at training specialists capable of modeling processes and designing gas turbine aircraft engines using advanced digital technologies.

There will also be a new enrollment in the master's program of the Higher School of Power Engineering "Aircraft Engines and Power Plants", which was opened last fall. Both master's programs are implemented as part of the advanced training system for highly qualified specialists for enterprises based on the country's leading technical universities.

The federal project "Advanced Engineering Schools" was launched by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation in 2022. Rostec is one of its active participants: with the assistance of the Corporation's holdings, the creation of advanced engineering schools in the areas of aircraft engineering, engine building, IT, automotive industry, etc. was initiated on the basis of 15 specialized universities. Today, advanced engineering schools are developing unique projects — from technology development to the creation of innovative products.

In addition to the joint training of highly qualified specialists for the engine industry, since 2023, the company and the university have been implementing a joint project "Engineering classes of UEC-Klimov". Students of grades 8-10 are taught 2D and 3D modeling at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University.
