An infantry fighting vehicle (BMP-2M) with a universal combat module "Berezhok" shoots from a 30-millimeter cannon, which is capable of piercing even concrete shelters, the servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation told Izvestia. In the forest belt near the village of Liptsy, they have to overcome the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and their well-camouflaged machine gun emplacements.
The servicemen call their car a "farce" because all attempts by the operators of enemy UAVs to knock it out were unsuccessful. The crew is preparing the BMP-2M for the next combat exit: it installs the Kornet anti-tank missile system, anti-drone safety is provided by welded metal structures, camouflage and anti-drone networks.
As the senior driver mechanic with the call sign Grandfather told, one of the drones that flew into the IFV in the forest belt became the mascot of the calculation on the body of the combat vehicle.
"I got into the safety net, the protection held, the car left unharmed. A reliable, sturdy, time-tested machine. We are constantly improving. And then we worked from open positions. A "bird" flew into us (a drone. — Ed.) with a high-explosive charge. It got into our welded armor. The car is gone. They worked out and went to the septic tank. She [the bird] stayed with us, and we hung her up as a mascot," he told Izvestia correspondent Vladislav Kharchenko.
According to the Grandfather, the crew of the combat vehicle is looking for points from where they will fire, coordinates with the leadership, and when a target is found, the crew rolls out to a closed position and works on adjustments.
"An FPV drone flew to us, and an ATGM flew over us, and they worked on us with a mortar, and there was also direct contact, but we left. Our task was to take the troops, work out the landing, so that they jumped off and took up positions, and we left. They left with a victory," the soldier added.
The updated BMP with the universal combat module "Berezhok" has steel armor, the thickness of which reaches 23 mm. Thanks to the surveillance system, the enemy is in the palm of the gunner's hand.
"Now the system is standing, there is a thermal imager. Within 5 km of a circular view, I can observe the target and see all enemy movements. You can't hide from her anymore," said the gunner—operator with the call sign Iron.
In his opinion, the improvements to the turret in the IFV are very good, compared to previous versions of the combat vehicle. So much so that "you can already try to compete with tanks," the fighter noted.
All these updates of military equipment help the servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation to perform a wider range of tasks and provide the necessary assistance to the infantry of the North group of forces in advancing on the Kharkov sector.
On July 29, Russian servicemen told Izvestia how tankers in the western direction are actively working to determine the enemy's positions and force him to leave the fortified area.
On September 6, 2023, military expert, retired colonel, director of the Museum of the Air Defense Forces (Air Defense) Yuri Knutov told Izvestia about the modernization, which significantly raises the technical characteristics of the BMP-2M with combat compartments "Berezhok". On that day, it became known that the High-Precision Complexes holding (part of Rostec) had supplied the Ministry of Defense with a new batch of modernized BMP-2M infantry fighting vehicles with Berezhok combat compartments.
