The associations and formations of the Russian Navy, which participated in planned exercises in the operational zones of the Northern, Pacific and Baltic Fleets, as well as in the area of responsibility of the Caspian Flotilla, have begun to curtail forces. This was announced on August 1 by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
It is noted that in the near future, the crews of ships that performed combat training tasks for their intended purpose will return to their permanent bases.
"In accordance with the available results of the tasks assigned to the forces of the fleets and the flotilla, I believe that the purpose of the exercise has been achieved. The General Staff of the Navy will conduct a detailed analysis of the actions of surface forces, naval aviation and coastal units as part of comprehensive combat training measures," said Admiral Alexander Moiseev, Commander-in—Chief of the Navy.
In total, about 300 surface ships and boats, submarines and support vessels, up to 50 aircraft, more than 200 units of military and special equipment, over 20 thousand military personnel and persons from among the civilian personnel of units and formations were involved in the exercise. Within a few days, the crews of ships, naval aviation units and coastal troops of the three fleets and the Caspian Flotilla performed over 300 combat exercises with the practical use of weapons. This includes anti—aircraft missile firing, artillery firing at naval and air training targets.
As part of the exercises, the fleet management bodies and the Caspian Flotilla worked out cooperation with other law enforcement agencies and federal executive authorities during training on the organization of defense of bases, suppression of illegal activities at sea, organization of water rescue and other complex activities.
The main purpose of the exercises was to check the actions of the military authorities of the Navy at all levels, as well as the readiness of the crews of ships, units of naval aviation and coastal troops of the Russian Navy to perform their intended tasks.
The day before, on July 31, the forces of the Baltic Fleet carried out artillery firing at targets simulating warships and means of air attack of a simulated enemy. The crews of the small anti-submarine ship Aleksin and the missile boats Dimitrovgrad and Morshansk staged an artillery battle with surface ships and practiced conducting combat with a single ship and air attack means.
The crew of the Tatarstan missile ship of the Caspian Flotilla of the Russian Navy worked out the destruction of enemy saboteurs during scheduled exercises that began on July 31. According to the servicemen, as part of the exercises, the conditions are as close as possible to combat conditions and allow them to better master their functions, as well as try out the necessary equipment in action.
