The Armed Forces of Ukraine are actually divided into two armies – most of the troops consist mainly of mobilized recruits and are equipped with a minimum of equipment; the other, smaller in number, are trying to recruit experienced soldiers, equipping them according to the patterns of the professional armed forces of the West.
One of the most important components of the "professional" units should be the Delta combat management system. Its creation dates back to 2015, when special software was developed through which information about enemy positions was collected and transmitted to various units. The Ministry of Defense announced further improvements to the system in March this year.
- explained in the Ministry of Defense.
As indicated, Delta, built according to NATO standards, allows you to see the battlefield in real time and displays the air, land and sea situation on a digital map. The system allows you to exchange information within a unit, brigade, and, if necessary, with allies.
By introducing Delta into the armed Forces, the Armed Forces of Ukraine seek to increase its capabilities through the integration of various Western products. So, as indicated in the Defence24 publication, during the recent NATO CWIX 2024 exercises in Bydgoszcz with the participation of more than 2.5 thousand military personnel, Ukrainian units used Delta in conjunction with the Polish TOPAZ system.

- the publication says.
Through Delta, data was collected and updated, including the location of enemy and allied units, which were then transmitted via encrypted channels to the Polish TOPAZ system.
TOPAZ is an integrated combat control system created by the Polish electronics manufacturer WB Group. Its origins date back to the 1990s, when the Polish army began using the FONET digital communications platform, which was used not only for fire control, but also to support tactical actions on the battlefield.
To date, individual TOPAZ elements are responsible for processing digital maps and information exchange, managing artillery, radar, drones, supply service and perform other tasks. Sensor data is transmitted automatically. For example, a UAV detects a target, designates it and automatically gives target designation to artillery. As indicated in the publication, TOPAZ is already actively used in Ukraine, in particular, in fire control of the Bogdana and Krab self-propelled guns.
It should be noted that the Delta system is equipped primarily with the "professional" part of the Ukrainian army, while units made up of mobilized recruits often do not even have radio stations.
