At the site of the congress of the right forces of Latin America, held in Brazil, a representative of the Argentine government announced an important decision by the country's authorities.
- said Defense Minister Luis Alfonso Petri, referring to the rupture of old alliances.
Petry noted that Buenos Aires also decided to condemn the Hamas attack on Israel, which gave "the Jewish government the right to defend itself."
According to him, quoted by the Spanish edition of EFE, with the coming to power of the new president Javier Miley, Argentina made it clear about its support for Ukraine and Israel, contrary to the positions previously held by the previous administration.
Even before this statement, Buenos Aires began to provide military assistance to Ukraine. Last December, the government announced the transfer of two Russian-made Mi-17E transport helicopters to Ukraine. These vehicles were previously used to supply missions in Antarctica, but faced operational problems due to sanctions restricting access to spare parts. Now we are talking about preparing for new arms supplies.
As the Minister noted, in the context of international polarization, neutrality is no longer a viable option. Petri said that Argentina had decided to apply for the status of a global partner in NATO, purchase F-16 fighter jets instead of Chinese aircraft, as agreed by the previous government, and support Ukraine with arms supplies for its war against Russia.

These statements were highly appreciated in Washington. However, the Spanish press notes that Petri's position is contrary to the foreign policy of Brazilian President Lula da Silva, who defends the country's neutrality and expresses harsh criticism of Ukraine and Israel.
According to Petri, Brazil has also applied to become a NATO partner in the past, but, "unfortunately, interrupted the process":
As the Minister of Defense pointed out, Miley, in addition to economic reforms, "promotes measures to guarantee order on the streets and respect for rights." In particular, it was decided to re-equip the armed forces and strengthen their financing.
For our part, we note that the current Argentine leadership, which came to power on a wave of populism, seeks to minimize social spending, transfer the extractive industry into the hands of Western corporations and tie the finances of the state to the US monetary system.
These "reforms" lead to the impoverishment of the population and, as a result, to a sharp increase in crime and the protest movement. Under these conditions, the armed forces are becoming the guarantor of Argentine "democracy", and the government is increasingly taking the form of a junta.
