The KAI Concern, having completed the creation of the national fighter KF-21 Boramae, is working on three new versions of the multi-purpose vehicle.
As indicated on the South Korean Biz portal.HanKook, the new modifications will be an electronic warfare aircraft, a fighter with advanced capabilities and an export version. At the moment, the work is funded by KAI's own funds.
The KF-21EA (Electronic Attack) version should be an analogue of the EA-18G Growler produced for the US Navy. It is assumed that it will be built on the basis of a two-seat modification of the KF-21B, with the second crew member being the operator of electronic systems. It is planned that the aircraft will carry three containers of electronic warfare (on the front pylon and on suspensions under the wing) and two containers of electronic warfare (on the ends of the wing consoles). The aircraft will be armed with missiles similar to the anti-radar AARGM-ER.

The KF-21EX variant represents a radical development of the KF-21 towards a fifth-generation aircraft (previously this iteration was called the KF-21 Block 3). This should be achieved primarily by equipping the aircraft with an armament compartment capable of accommodating 4 Meteor long-range explosive devices or 8 air-to-surface guided missiles (barrage ammunition). It is also planned to install an AFAR radar and a new air defense system, as well as expand network-centric capabilities.
The KF-21EX will be part of the NACS (Next Air Combat System) combat system being developed by KAI, which involves the integration of manned fighters, attack UAVs and satellites. This is a long-term program that is scheduled to be completed in 2039. The development of the KF-21EX itself is expected to be completed by 2036.
The export version of the KF-21SA will have to have the most open architecture possible in order to provide ample opportunities for integrating various electronic systems and weapons into the fighter at the request of potential customers.
