On June 26, 2024, the first turboprop military transport aircraft C-27J NG Spartan produced by the Italian company Leonardo was officially presented to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at Baku International Airport. The aircraft has the tail number "60 white".

The event was attended by Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Edmondo Cirielli and President of Leonardo Stefano Pontecorvo.
On June 8, 2023, Leonardo signed a contract for the supply of an undisclosed number of Leonardo C-27J Spartan turboprop military transport aircraft to the Azerbaijani Air Force.
Azerbaijan thus became the 18th recipient of the C-27J family of aircraft, and the aircraft delivered to it became the 89th serial delivered C-27J aircraft (plus two prototypes were built). Since 2020, C-27J NG (Next Generation) version aircraft have been in mass production, which differ from the basic version by installing winglets on the wings, an updated avionics and navigation and communication equipment complex, and new cockpit equipment. Turkmenistan became the recipient of the first two C-27 NG aircraft in 2021.
