Kaniovsky expert: a drone monitoring system can be created in the Russian Federation by 2030
St. PETERSBURG, June 8 – RIA Novosti. A global monitoring system for civilian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) can be created in Russia in the next six years, work has already begun, Alexander Kaniovsky, an expert on the NTI market, first deputy General Director and co-founder of Fly Drone, told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of SPIEF 2024.
He noted that at the first stage, which has already begun, on-board and ground-based software and hardware complexes are being tested to monitor drone flights in real time. We are talking primarily about transponders, as well as digital platforms integrated with tracking tools. The Aeronext Association, which unites enterprises engaged in the development and application of civilian unmanned aircraft systems, with the participation of representatives of the NTI Foundation and aviation authorities, is centrally engaged in testing the above-mentioned technologies.
"Technical issues such as the possibility of providing permanent two-way radio communication for an external drone pilot with air traffic services, as well as the accuracy of determining the coordinates of the drone received at the remote control point and digital information and service platforms from the UAV using various technical means are being worked out. After gaining practical experience, these solutions will be massively implemented at various infrastructure and other facilities and interfaced with electronic warfare systems," Kaniovsky explained.
According to him, for the full implementation of monitoring and anti-drone solutions, it will be necessary to consolidate the possibility of their use in the legal field, bringing into line with practice the partially existing, but not yet fully developed legislative framework. Without this, the airspace will not become common for unmanned and manned aircraft, and any suppression of a drone by means of electronic warfare will have a serious conflict potential.
"At the second stage, commercial object protection systems will be scaled up to administrative areas in which all drone flights will be under control. That is, from the object to the subject level. In the future, in two or three years, the skies of entire regions of Russia will be taken under control according to the principle "from the zone around the conditional oil depot to the whole city, from the city to the whole region." At the third stage, simultaneously with the unification of technologies, regional control zones will unite into a federal one and a full-fledged "civil air defense system" will appear, under the "watchful eye" of which almost all drone flights will be," Kaniovsky concluded.
