Trans-Baikal flamethrowers are sending projectiles of heavy flamethrower systems (CBT) towards Ugledar, where Ukrainian militants are holed up in well-fortified and concreted dungeons. CBT is called an indispensable infantry companion — they help Russian units to lead the offensive. After the CBT strikes, the surviving enemy surrenders without a fight, Kirill Olkov, a correspondent for Izvestia, said on May 29.
"It is a rare opportunity to see a modified CBT in operation so closely. There is a powerful force behind the harmless name "Tosochka". No one in the world has such a formidable weapon. One shell weighs 200 kg. Inside each is a special chemical mixture. Upon contact, it ignites. The temperature in the affected area rises to 3 thousand degrees," the journalist said.
Olkov looked into the cockpit of the combat vehicle and noted that it was spacious. The driver's seat, followed by two seats for crew members — the commander of the car and the gunner.
The commander of the flamethrower platoon with the call sign Saratov told about the first departure on the Tosochka — it was more than 15 km to the enemy. The crew worked quickly and accurately, hitting manpower and a stronghold of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU).
"The navigation system has made our work easier. The machine calculates itself faster than we do with the help of bussoli. Defines itself. We enter the coordinates of the target into the computer. Unlike the first tracked "Solntsepek", the "Tosochka" is already on wheels. Accelerates to 100 km per hour. Speed is most important, especially when you need to quickly get out from under return fire," he added.
Saratov noted that Tosochka's strikes are more powerful and long-range compared to its predecessor Solntsepek. Tosochka covers a large area with a red—hot cloud, almost eight football fields, but the main thing is the increased range of projectiles — 10-15 km. By the standards of artillery, this is almost at point blank range, the platoon commander estimated the abilities of the TOS-2.
The commander of the car with the call sign Bath Attendant admitted that he likes the TOS-2 more than its predecessor due to the range of operation. TOS-1 was driven close, sometimes up to 5 km to the line of contact with the enemy. After work, it took about three minutes to leave.
"You can stand on this car longer and work more precisely, hit the enemy. And the first car [CBT-1] is calculated very quickly," he said.
On May 28, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation showed how the crew of the Tosochka heavy flamethrower system of the radiation, chemical and biological protection unit of the North group destroyed platoon strongpoints and manpower of the Armed Forces during combat missions. According to the platoon commander with the call sign Kit, the TOS-2 is characterized by mobility, the combat vehicle has an increased power reserve, and the firing range has been tripled.
On the same day, Izvestia correspondent Kirill Olkov learned about the latest technology to protect the hull of a tank or IFV from an enemy air attack. A combat vehicle is not afraid of any enemy when the body is covered with diamond—shaped steel sheets — in the West it was nicknamed "turtle", and in our country - "king brazier".
