In March 2020, the Indian shipbuilding company Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) signed a contract with the Turkish shipbuilding consortium TAIS for the design and construction of five Fleet Support Vessel (FSV) ships with a displacement of 44,000 tons for the Indian Navy. The Turkish consortium was preferred by South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries for price reasons. You can read more about it here.

The construction of the FSV lead ship was to begin at HSL at the end of 2020 with delivery to the Indian Navy in 2024, the remaining four units were to be delivered at a 10-month interval. The project proposed by the Turkish consortium looked quite similar to the 26,000-ton integrated supply ship Derya, built for the Turkish Navy. In addition to the "ship" part of the contract itself, it also provided for the participation of Turkish shipbuilders in the modernization of the HSL shipyard.
At the same time, the signing of the contract between the Ministry of Defense of India and HSL for the five above-mentioned ships took place only in August 2023, respectively, and the deadlines for the delivery of the first unit in the series shifted to the middle of 2027. The contract value was estimated at 2.3 billion dollars. At the same time, already in August 2023, both in the official message of the Ministry of Defense of India and in the news reports of the Indian media, there was no mention that the ships would be built with Turkish help. In February 2024, new images of the FSS ship also appeared, which, as it was now claimed, were designed by the Indian company Smart Engineering & Design Solutions, although in general the appearance and layout of the ship follows the original one.
On April 10, 2024, the ceremony of the first steel cutting for the future head FSV was announced. And just a couple of days later, information appeared in the Turkish media about the termination of the contract between HSL and TAIS. Thus, Turkish shipbuilders officially lost a lucrative and status contract. The reason for this development is not reported, the Turkish media focuses on India's dissatisfaction with the close cooperation between Turkey and Pakistan in the defense sector. Whether this was the real reason for the termination of the contract, or in fact the reasons lie in the economic or industrial plane, is unknown.
