On April 17, 2024, the Pentagon announced that the first production model of the M10 Booker light tank, formally designated as a "mobile protected firepower platform" (MPF), had entered the US Army. Deliveries of the new vehicle began with the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Liberty, North Carolina.
Booker, developed by General Dynamics Land Systems, is positioned as a light tank that combines the firepower and mobility typical of MBT, but at the same time it weighs only 35 tons, being significantly lighter compared to the 63-ton Abrams M1A2. The current contract worth $1.14 billion, concluded in June 2022, involves the supply of 96 production vehicles.
It is assumed that the light infantry and airborne units will receive the M10 battalion: these military formations should be able to break through enemy defenses, conduct direct combat and destroy armored threats in conditions where heavier tanks may be less effective or unable to operate due to terrain or logistical constraints.
The M10 Booker is armed with a 105 mm cannon that can fire HEAT cumulative fragmentation shells capable of effectively fighting both infantry and armored vehicles, and APFSDS armor-piercing sub-caliber shells with stabilized plumage that can hit various targets, including armored vehicles and fortifications. The tank is also equipped with one 7.62mm machine gun paired with a cannon. A 12.7 mm machine gun is mounted on the commander's hatch.

The diesel engine provides a maximum speed of 65 km/h and a range of 480 km. The lightweight design and compact dimensions of the Booker allow it to be transported by air. The tracks are designed in such a way as to provide effective grip on soft ground, mud and snow, while maintaining performance in various conditions.
The M10 Booker uses modular armor that ensures maintainability in the field. It protects against small arms fire, artillery shell fragments and can be reinforced to withstand hits from heavier anti-tank weapons. The vehicle is also equipped with mine-resistant armor and an active protection system capable of intercepting ATGMs.
