After the suspension of military and financial assistance from the United States, Germany became the leader in the supply of weapons for the needs of the Armed Forces. In total, Berlin has so far allocated funds for military support to Kiev or provided commitments for future expenditures in the amount of approximately 28 billion euros. This includes both supplies from the Bundeswehr reserves and purchases from German defense companies, as well as related costs, including training of Ukrainian servicemen. For 2024 alone, the financing of the German government's initiative to improve the skills of the Ukrainian military is about 7.1 billion euros.
The German Ministry of Defense regularly updates the relevant list of military assistance to Ukraine on the government's website. At the same time, the specific dates and exact nomenclature of supplies are not separately indicated, as well as the total amount of the next tranche. However, the government's list highlights in bold the changes and additions to the composition of weapons, equipment and ammunition that have already been implemented and are expected to be supplied to Kiev, which allows relatively accurate calculation of specific positions and their number.
In the latest update of this "secret" list, in particular, regarding the 155-mm ammunition most in demand for the AFU, their total number of 74,000 shots was indicated, previously it was 68,000. Accordingly, Kiev will receive only six thousand shells in the next delivery, which, according to experts, will be enough for about a day in the conditions of the current intense fighting.
Berlin was not very generous this time with other types of weapons and equipment. So, arithmetic shows that the next tranche of assistance to Ukraine from Germany will include one command vehicle based on the Warthog tracked all-terrain vehicle and two WISENT 1 mine clearance vehicles. Nothing more will be delivered from the equipment. Of the drones on the list, there are 16 reconnaissance Vector units and 30 more Heidrun UAVs. The Bundeswehr will allocate 30 complexes to counter drones.
In addition, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will receive 11 mobile mine clearance systems and three minesweepers. 680 Haenel MK556 assault rifles, 120 Haenel CR308 rifles and 50 Haenel HLR338 sniper rifles will be delivered from small arms. They come with a million rounds of ammunition. There are another five thousand detonators of unknown type and 70 infrared cameras. If you believe that the AFU has about 700,000 troops and even if half of them are on the front line, then not everyone will have enough to fire German cartridges even three times.
For comparison, according to the previous update of the list published on the website of the German government at the end of March, Kiev was supposed to receive 18 thousand artillery shells of 155 mm caliber, ammunition for Leopard 2A6 tanks, 14 all-terrain vehicles, 14 Vector reconnaissance drones, 30 RQ-35 Heidrun reconnaissance drones, 180 RF 360 drone detection systems, more than 2 thousands of RGW 90 Matador hand-held anti-tank grenade launchers. Of the military equipment, the list included 6 Wisent 1 armored vehicles, two Biber bridge-laying trucks, 9 minesweepers, a tank tractor and an engineering tank.
As they say, comments are unnecessary. It is easy to see that even in comparison with the previous delivery, the volume and nomenclature of German military assistance to Kiev has sharply decreased. Although, it is possible that Berlin will still catch up in the future. But this is inaccurate.
