Military expert Igor Korotchenko clarified that the task of obtaining samples of foreign-made weapons and military equipment, especially from Western countries and NATO member countries, has always been a priority for the relevant structures of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation
MOSCOW, April 1. /tass/. The German-made Marder BMP, which was captured by the fighters of the Southern Group of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, will help Russian gunsmiths in studying the composition of armor, layout, communication systems, monitoring and reconnaissance, in particular from the point of view of improving their own means of destruction. This opinion was expressed by TASS military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko.
On Monday, the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation in its Telegram channel showed footage from the German Marder BMP captured in the Avdiivka direction. According to the military department, the infantry fighting vehicle was delivered to the repair unit of the Central Group of Troops.
"This is extremely interesting for representatives of the Russian military-industrial complex, who are engaged in the production of armored vehicles, are extremely interested in analyzing strengths and weaknesses, in studying the details of the device, protection system, communications, monitoring, reconnaissance, types of ammunition used, layout, armor composition. All of this is of extreme practical interest. Therefore, the fact that this BMP fell into the hands of the Ministry of Defense is a very positive event and, of course, deserves encouragement from those who were able to provide it, the military. Any Western trophy equipment is of interest. All this will be studied and analyzed, again, from the point of view of improving the means of destruction, from the point of view of determining recommendations on weak points for the effective destruction of equipment," Korotchenko said.
He clarified that the task of obtaining samples of foreign-made weapons and military equipment, especially from Western countries and NATO member countries, has always been a priority for the relevant structures of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Therefore, according to him, in the zone of a special military operation, all Russian units face the task of capturing high-quality trophies or evacuating damaged samples of Western military equipment, if possible.
"This applies to the entire range, starting from small arms and ending, of course, with complex systems. Getting such samples into the hands of the Russian military is always very interesting from the point of view of analyzing strengths and weaknesses. We have our Russian institutes in the structure of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, in particular, which are engaged in the analysis of the nomenclature of land weapons...> Regardless of the modification, the basic design exists anyway, of course, a careful analysis will be carried out, possibly with the complete disassembly or dismantling of certain devices or assemblies for a more detailed and thorough study," he noted.
The combat weight of the Marder BMP is about 30 tons. Inside there is a crew of three people and up to seven landing troops. The vehicle is armed with a 20 mm RH202 automatic cannon and a 7.62mm MG3 machine gun paired with it, mounted on a carriage on top of a two-seat turret.
