Voronin. Lukhovitsy, 03/31/2024 (c) PJSC United Aircraft Corporation

The UAC press release says:

UAC resumed the Il-114-300 flight test program, within which the second prototype aircraft made its first flight from the airfield of the branch of PJSC UAC - Voronin LAZ.

The aircraft was piloted by a crew consisting of the aircraft commander, chief pilot, Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation Sergey Sukhar, Honored Test Pilot of the Russian Federation Igor Zinov, on-board test engineer 1st class Oleg Gryazev. The flight lasted 40 minutes and took place at altitudes up to 900 m and at speeds up to 230 km/h.

During the tests, the stability and controllability of the aircraft were checked, as well as the stable operation of Russian systems and equipment, most of which were manufactured by Rostec State Corporation enterprises.

The crew commander reported that the flight was normal, the systems and equipment were working properly, and the flight program was fully completed. Prior to the start of flights, the aircraft underwent a cycle of ground tests: workshop and airfield testing were performed. Taxiways and high-speed runs were also performed as part of the flight test program.

"The resumption of the flight test program is an important step towards the creation of a new aircraft for regional transportation. We are connecting a second experimental machine to the flights. I would like to thank my colleagues in the cooperation for their contribution to the continuation of the test program. We all have a lot of hard work ahead of us. The aircraft is being created for operation, including in difficult climatic conditions. We will have to confirm the reliability and operability of all systems, including in harsh climates," said Daniil Brenerman, Managing Director of PJSC Il, commenting on the upcoming test program.

The developer of the aircraft is a subsidiary of UAC - PJSC Il, the final assembly of the aircraft is carried out at an enterprise in Lukhovitsy near Moscow.

The IL-114-300 aircraft consists of Russian components, and many UAC enterprises participate in cooperation. The design documentation of the aircraft was translated into "digital", a digital model of the aircraft was created. This allows PJSC Il and the aircraft factories involved in cooperation on the creation of the aircraft to work in a single information space.

"Aircraft manufacturers still have a large amount of certification work ahead for the Il-114-300 aircraft, including flight tests. Modern Russian-made regional aircraft are extremely necessary to solve the tasks that the country's leadership has set for air transport. This is an increase in the mobility of our citizens, an increase in the intensity of air traffic in Russia by one and a half times by 2030," said Dmitry Yadrov, head of the Federal Air Transport Agency.

Flight performance has been improved on the new regional Il-114-300, the use of composite materials has been increased, and a new digital flight navigation system has been installed. Almost all the main systems on the aircraft have been improved, special attention has been paid to improving the ergonomics of the crew cabin.

IL-114-300 is a regional passenger aircraft with a maximum capacity of 68 seats. It will replace the AN-24 on local airlines. The IL-114-300 will be able to operate autonomously from relatively small airfields with both concreted and unpaved surfaces. In addition, it is planned to use it in the Arctic regions.

The aircraft is equipped with a TV7-117ST-01 engine, which has undergone a set of improvements. A new auxiliary power plant TA 14-114 has also been installed, which will ensure the autonomy of the aircraft during maintenance and preparation for flight at poorly equipped airfields.

"The TV7-117ST-01 engine is powerful, reliable and easy to maintain. UEC designers have done a lot of work to improve the performance of power plants of the TV7-117 family. UEC is increasing production capacity, and we are ready to start serial deliveries of TV7-117ST-01 to meet the aviation industry's demand for domestic engines," said Vadim Badekha, General Director of UEC, member of the Bureau of the Central Council of Soyuzmash of Russia LLC.

The aircraft engine TV7-117ST-01 is a modern development of the St. Petersburg enterprise ODK-Klimov. It was certified in December 2022 and surpasses its foreign counterparts in terms of technical characteristics. The power plant has increased power during takeoff and includes a new AV112-114 propeller with increased thrust of 4 tons.

The flight data sheet for the first flight of the IL-114-300 was signed on the hood of the black Volga by Daniil Brenerman, Managing Director of PJSC Il, and Konstantin Letov, head of the flight Test Center of PJSC Il. The tradition was introduced more than 50 years ago by Heinrich Novozhilov, then the general designer of the Ilyushin Design Bureau, putting his signature on the flight data sheet of the Il-76 transport aircraft on the hood of a company car. That takeoff was successful, and such a signing has become a good Ilyushin tradition.

The IL-114-300 took to the sky on the day when the 130th anniversary of the birth of the great aircraft designer Sergei Ilyushin is celebrated. Under his leadership, dozens of aircraft were designed, built and tested for the military and civil air fleet of our country.

On the part of bmpd, we recall that work on the resumption of production of the Il-114 aircraft in the upgraded Il-114-300 appearance has been carried out by the UAC since 2014. The IL-114-300 regional turboprop passenger aircraft should have a flight range of up to 4,800 km with a load of 1,000 kg and 3,250 km with 1,000 kg, with a maximum fuel reserve of up to 5,600 km. The hourly fuel consumption during a flight with a maximum fuel reserve will be 550 kg/h.

The IL-114 aircraft is designed to carry up to 64 passengers. Its power plant consists of two TV7-117ST-01 TVDs with a capacity of 2500 hp each. The maximum take-off weight is 23.5 tons; the maximum commercial load weight is 6500 kg (with a maximum fuel reserve, the commercial load is up to 1500 kg. Cruising speed is 500 km/h; cruising altitude is 7,600 m; takeoff/landing distance is 1350/1350 m.

Initially, it was planned to resume production of Il-114 at the Nizhny Novgorod Sokol Aviation Plant with the start of deliveries in 2018. Then a manhole in Lukhovitsy near Moscow was chosen as a production site, and in 2017, UAC announced plans to start production at the MANHOLE and serial deliveries of Il-114-300 in 2021 and reach the design production capacity of 12 aircraft annually there in 2022. At the MAKS-2017 air show, the State Transport Leasing Company (STLC) signed an agreement of intent with UAC to purchase 50 Il-114-300 aircraft, with the delivery of the first three in 2020. In 2021, the UAC announced its intention to certify the IL-114-300 by the autumn of 2023 and begin its serial production at a rate of 12 aircraft per year from 2025. In reality, the program has turned into a long-term project with unclear prospects, which is aggravated by the problematic engine of the TV7-117ST series.

The first prototype of the IL-114-300 (OP-1, registration number 54114) was a converted serial IL-114 aircraft with factory number 1033830030 and serial number 01-08, built in 1994 by the Tashkent Aviation Production Association named after V.P. Chkalov (previously the aircraft had registration number RA-91002), which since 2000 it was stored in Zhukovsky. Since 2016, the aircraft has been converted in the hangar of the Il PJSC branch in Zhukovsky into the Il-114-300 prototype, receiving, in particular, new TV7-117ST-01 engines and new avionics, including the TSNPK-114M2 digital navigation and aerobatic complex, and made its first flight in Zhukovsky on December 16, 2020. However, in August 2021, tests were suspended due to the crash of a prototype Il-112B military transport aircraft equipped with the same TV7-117ST series engines developed by ODK-Klimov.

Flight tests under the IL-114-300 program have been resumed only now, with the flight in Lukhovitsy of the first prototype Il-114-300 aircraft (OP-2, serial number 01-10, registration number 54115) of a new construction. The construction of this side has been underway since 2018, the center section for the aircraft was manufactured at the VASO plant in Voronezh and delivered to Lukhovitsy in September 2019. The prototype of the OP-2 was pumped into the manhole in May 2023, but it has been undergoing ground tests for more than 10 months.

The third flight prototype of the IL-114-300 (the second completely new construction), an OP-3 aircraft with serial number 01-11, is located on the manhole in the building stage.

The IL-114-300 construction program provides for the production at VASO of a number of important elements of the airframe, including wings and tail fins with mechanization, engine nacelles, etc. In general, as part of the cooperation, PJSC VASO will manufacture 42% of the airframe units of the IL-114-300 aircraft. Panels for the fuselage of the IL-114-300 are manufactured at the Ulyanovsk Aviastar Aircraft Factory. The Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Factory (NAZ) Sokol is responsible for the production of fuselage edema IL-114-300 panels manufactured in Ulyanovsk. NAZ will be responsible for the manufacture of about 40% of the units and assemblies of the IL-114-300 aircraft.

At the end of December 2022, the Federal Air Transport Agency issued a type certificate for the TV7-117ST-01 turboprop engine, which is now supposedly considered "ready".
