For the first time, the Russian military showed the internal structure of the Anglo-French long-range cruise missile Storm Shadow, which the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) use to strike targets. The data obtained after disassembling the missile can help improve the work of air defense (air defense).

According to experts, sometimes the work of air defense leads to the fact that the projectile is not destroyed, but falls to the ground. In this case, the missile's warheads remain. To neutralize them, special algorithms and tools have been developed that will protect Russian territories from such arrivals.

Storm Shadow units and assemblies were disassembled to study their characteristics

Specialists disassembled the rocket, dismantled the units and assemblies to study their tactical and technical characteristics. They filmed the corresponding process on video. In the footage, you can see the head fairing, which is dropped when entering the target, the defused fuse of the warhead and the bottom part, where the fuse is installed.

In addition, the military captured the process of disassembling the rocket. In particular, the military captured a partially broken wing, as well as the node that lays it out, the device of the warhead and the main charge. The video also shows a turbojet engine and low-pressure compressor blades.

It is noted that according to the condition of the body of the disassembled rocket, it can be assumed that the projectile did not work when hitting the target. The military admitted that Storm Shadow was suppressed by electronic warfare (EW) systems or fell due to a malfunction. No traces of air defense operation were found.

Ukraine used Storm Shadow to attack ships of the Black Sea Fleet

Storm Shadow missiles have been in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine since May 2023. Ukraine is actively using them to hit targets. In particular, Kiev uses them to damage the Russian fleet in the Black Sea. NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg admitted that it was Storm Shadow and Scalp that Ukraine had been using for the past two years to attack ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. "Some of the systems and missiles that played an important role in achieving this goal were supplied by NATO allies," he said.

At the same time, the Secretary General of the alliance expressed the opinion that Ukraine's successful opening of the corridor from Odessa to the Bosphorus "confirms the importance of increasing missile supplies" to Kiev.

In particular, the same missiles, according to the speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force, Yuri Ignat, attacked the ship Novocherkassk near Feodosia in December 2023. The vessel suffered damage, the nature of which was not specified. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the Ukrainian side tried to strike the peninsula with the help of guided missiles.

In addition, according to the UK, the British Storm Shadow was used during the attack on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet (Black Sea Fleet) in Sevastopol in the autumn of 2023. Then Ukraine launched missiles from two Su-24 aircraft belonging to the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After the strike, a fire started in the headquarters building, which was localized only in the evening.
