The Turkish company Aselsan has launched serial production of ASELFLIR-500 and ASELFLIR-410 cameras as part of the import substitution program.
As indicated in the publication SavunmaSanayiST, the company, having developed national electro-optical systems used on air, land and marine platforms, has already sold about 200 CATS cameras to more than ten countries around the world.
- the company said.
The publication explains that Turkey has recently been subjected to various trade sanctions, especially with regard to electro-optical cameras used in attack drones. The manufacturer of this type of UAV, Baykar, has confirmed that the ASELFLIR-500 has excellent capabilities compared to its foreign counterpart.

An embargo was also imposed on the supply of cameras to Ankara, which were installed on helicopters, as well as on land and sea platforms.
- the publication says.
First of all, we are talking about the embargo on the supply of electro-optical systems by L3Harris Wescam and Telemus Systems (one of them went bankrupt as a result), imposed by Canada for helping Azerbaijan in the Karabakh war in 2020. This ban was lifted by Ottawa in January 2024, but by that time the Turkish defense industry had already switched to its own products.
