In February 2024, after Avdiivka, one of the trophies of the Russian army was the American Bradley M2A2 BMP, which was abandoned by Ukrainian troops with a full filling. A few days later, she was seen with the "vital equipment" removed.

This reflects the intention of the Russian authorities to study the technologies developed by NATO. This was not the first case: the equipment of the Swedish BMP BMPCV9040, captured in July 2023, was previously investigated

- the Army Recognition publication says, concerned about this course of events.

As indicated, the seizure of the Bradley M2A2 may have several consequences. Studying equipment designed for NATO troops, such as the Bradley M2A2 and CV9040, could provide the Russian military with valuable information about the latest technologies, engineering approaches and design principles in the West. This data can be used to identify strengths and weaknesses in the design, tactics and operational capabilities of the machines.

The analysis can help Russian engineers identify vulnerabilities in armor, sensors and electronic systems of vehicles. This knowledge would allow them to develop effective countermeasures to increase the survivability of their armored vehicles and strengthen their protection against similar platforms used by potential opponents.

It is also very likely that now the Russians will develop new weapons capable of destroying Western equipment

- the publication believes.

Captured BMP CV9040

In addition, the Russian military may be interested in integrating some of the advanced solutions in demand in the Bradley and CV90 designs into its armored vehicle development programs. By capturing and exploring the vehicles, they could learn about innovations in areas such as crew protection, mobility, firepower, and situational awareness.

In addition, these trophies allow the command to train troops on how to hit them effectively. Familiarity with the technique of a potential opponent can provide an advantage on the battlefield.

It may also affect the mechanism of [geopolitical] deterrence, as Russia's deep understanding of NATO's capabilities may reduce the technological and tactical advantage that Western forces usually possess.

- according to the publication.

In response to these technology leaks, NATO and its members, as AR writes, could take several steps to mitigate the consequences of such losses. First, to accelerate the development of new technologies and the modernization of existing systems in order to get ahead of the countermeasures that Russia will take. This could include increased stealth, cyber resilience, and electronic warfare capabilities.

Secondly, NATO should minimize the risk of seizing sensitive equipment, for example, by using procedures for the emergency destruction of classified materiel in the event of its falling into enemy hands.

Thirdly, it is necessary to prepare troops to counter the updated tactics and technologies of the enemy, which can help preserve NATO's strategic advantage.

It is noted that NATO is studying Russian products in a similar way.

A notable example is the R-37M air-to-air missile, the components of which were seized in February 2023 in Ukraine and transferred to British intelligence

- it is said in the Western press.
